we recently went to a campsite with our folding camper, and were refused electric hook up on the grounds that, due to the canvas roof it did not meet health and safety standards for the electric. has anybody else had the same type of problem?
I ment to say we have had elecric hook up in our tents, you can't get much more canvasey than that now, can you? You should have said well may be we do have a canvas roof, but at least when it rains the rain doesn't rattle on the roof. so we are not causing noise polution.
Seems to be an increasing problem with tents so not suprised it is affecting some campers. Our pennine has a certificate to say the electricity was tested god help them if we get turned down. Would be a major problem for the manufacturers if folding campers got turned down no one would buy them.

"has a certificate to say the electricity was tested"
Who from? I would think that would be pretty unique.

If it didn't meet safety regulations then Conway wouldn't have fitted it

I would not go that far, I have seen wiring by a Major manufacturers which would not meet the regs, I cannot comment on a Conway, but I cannot remember seeing one caravan or motorhome yet that would pass regs, but even though thay dont pass regs I dont know of any casualties from camping electrics, quite a few shocks, but none serious.
I also have a certificate testing my electrics in our 2000 Pennine Pullman, it is a 16th edition completion and inspection certificate - touring and motor caravan (leisure use only) with details of installation - particulars of installation, and design and construction and schedule of inspection , totally independent of pennine ,as it gives the firms address that carried out the inspection, not unique i would assume all new units would have to have some kind of certificate of conformity more than enough for me to be sure my camper was desigined and is safe enough for electric hook up , and that no health and safety law exsists that prevents this , and would challenge any one to show me the health and safety law that prevents this.
Its in the van so can't tell you the extra power point also has a certificate signing it off. Enough for me to flash under the nose of any one complaining. Will look at Lickhill and see what it actually says. Watch this space.

I suspect it all depends on the EHU.
Tent EHUs (the proper ones) are built to "wet" standards and have RCDs. Trailer Tent EHUs, like caravans, may not be. In fact they're quite likely to be home made.
So perhaps the site policy is that all "tents" have to have "proper tent" EHUs?
I agree with all the above. Absolute crap. I suspeect there may have been another reason which they were not prepared to divulge.
Just don't go there again. Perhaps you would care to name and shame them or put a review on the relevant section on this site. We would appreciate the heads up on this site.
yeah i sent a review to the site, and its waiting to be cleared, if anyone is interested it is nant mill on gronant road near rhyl, we were quite dissapointed by them refusing EHU to us as we were up until this last time regular visitors to the site ( previously in a tent)
