I am going to do a lot of looking around. We have decided to see the Summer out with the Galaxy as we have 2 separate weeks planned with friends.
Come September I think I will trade it in for a folding Camper. If I can put the Galaxy up on my own, I think a FC should be alot easier.
The luxury of a toilet in the middle of the night, arrhh!
You know what kids are like and they manage to fill a bucket.
Mike and Jen, Going to have a look at a Randger!
Kids are growing, the boat floated and we had a good summer out of it, but Hubby went to the Southampton Boat Show and traded it in for a Monterey 218. Its the same thing but a bit bigger. He managed to get a Landrover off the firm for his work vehicle so he can tow it.
I am still stuck with my 405, its a P reg and still only has 50,000 on the clock. I only run the kids to school and make a trip to Asda. Its a good car and still has loads of life under the bonnet, its just passed its MOT again and I must admit I have not spent a penny on it apart from new brake shoes and a good service.
We can change the car or change the tent, the cheaper option is to change the tent, I am sure we will have more fun as a family, 'if I get a folding Camper', (just trying to convince my other half) Ha!
Let you know what transpires
Sue
------------- Take the kids camping! they will love it!
I have a Dandy 4/5 folding camper, and can manage it on my own with my 14 year old son 'helping'! (hubby doesn't camp - mainly because he works at w/ends, and also because he hates it!) mine is an old one, but still 100% waterproof because it's made of PVC, and you can fold it away damp. Initially it took me ages to put it up because I was learning, but find that the more often we use it the quicker it gets. The guy who sold it to me showed me how to do it and it took him all of 5 minutes - I've yet to maanage that. I've never used the awning as it weighs a ton and I don't think I could do it on my own, and I'm 5.9 and fairly strong.
It has loads of space, and loads of storage, I find the kitchen easy to put into place, and one of the beds converts into a sofa for daytime. It's easy to tow. Have a look on ebay, there are a few on there at the moment.
We have had tents, trailer tents and we are on our second FC. The first was a Pullman which we had for three years but I found it hard to put up on my own. We now have the Pathfinder, this I can put up with no help and I can do the awning, (don't tell the old man tho!!). Only reason we changed to the Pathfinder was the need for the toilet, my bladder is not getting any younger!!

We got our folding camper (a Dandy) in January, + have used it several times for 2 night stays. It is a doddle to put the main unit up. A bit longer for the awning. I guess all awnings of the frame tent type take about the same time.
From what I've seen of trailer tents, campers are much easier.
We've got the 04 Trigano 575 LX and find it easy peasy to put the unit up on my own and I've even put the awning up on my own the second time we used it so I'd say the Trigano is a nice unit and you should be able to find an 04 model or if your rich, a current model. I have seen an 04 model at Norwich Camping and Leisure for about £6000.500. Mind you they are not too good at aftersales orders or repairs.
Hi we went from a large Raclet trailer tent to a folding camper this year - great move. Although I must admit to feeling guilty and feeling a bit more like a caravanner than a camper now - but it is easy to put up - on our one, the beds fold out like a trailer tent - but the great benefit is that you do not have to put up the awning on bad weather or just for an overnight stop as everything is inside the main cabin it literally takes 10 mins. to get it up and weather proof and then for ours, 1/2 hr. inside in the dry just sorting out the interior. We could just put the cabin up on the trailer tent but you would then have had nowhere to cook ot store anything and limited seating. Obviously the price is very different but you can get some bargains - friends of ours have just bought a smashing, large and roomy camper (hard - top) for about £2000.
We have just got a Pennine Pullman folding camper and are well pleased with it. The gas struts do make it a doddle to open out single handed though another pair of hand are useful for roling the trailer cover into the pocket at the front.
The frame and canvas is much easier to tension than with the Trigano we had. It does not trap fingers so readily either. Its a much better design.
The kitchen unit is in two halves, sink and hob unit, so it is easy to lift into place and connect. Again it is much better than the Trigano with easier connectors and handles.
The wardrobe unit is lighter to lift and mounted on a plastic rail so it slides out smoothly. The Trigano one was so awkward I removed it and we used to leave it in the garage.
The main bonus point for us is the luxury of constant hot water on tap so washing up and cooking are a pleasure.
My wife even persuaded me to take a small television and large aerial so she could watch the tennis whilst I cooked dinner on the barbeque. We cant wait to go again.
Why is camping so much better than luxury hotels with all mod cons?
WE JUST GOT A CONWAY CRUISER, ON SAT JUST GONE . WE'VE HAD TENTS AND TWO TRAILER TENTS. WE ARE VERY PLEASED WITH THE CAMPER CAN'T WAIT TO MEET YOU ALL (MAYBE) IN DARTMOUTH.........AND SHOW US HOW TO WORK FRIDGE ...LOL :-)
beleive me tt's are hard work, great when they are up,but a chore.biggest mistake we made when we had the kids was to buy a tt,had it one season and got rid.now got a van and much better than tt or folding camper.mind you if we could not have afforded the van(not much difference in price to good folding camper) it would have been the folder.
------------- its nice to be nice,if you cant be nice, don't be nasty
