hi all

just a quick question , but do they allow you to proof your tt while on site . im not talking about a c&cc but your normal farm type site . would be dead useful as ours is to big for the garden . if not where would suggest bearing in mind its meant to be up for 24 hrs after to dry out.

cheers , bernie

I would be amazed if you asked and they said "Yes", as if any of the waterproofing gets on the grass,it will destroy it.

So you can imaging 10 units turning up, and splashing the re-proofing over, and the site being laid to waste when they had finished.

I only got a splash on my lawn last year, and have had a burn patch hteir ever since.

hey there irishrose

i think that i heard somewhere that if you did it in the morning & put it away last thing before the night air got to it , you could put it up the next day ? not to sure about that though . wouldn't it go a bit sticky if its not dry & attach to the curtains bedding etc ? wasnt to bad with the other tt as next door said we could leave it there till it dried out . not to sure about this beast  though ?

I saw a chap doing his caravan awning on site a couple of years ago. He was painting it on with a brush, I commented on how dark it looked but he said it would dry the same color. He also said he does it every year on the same site.

Did the main part of my TT(sleeping compartments) with Fabsil last year...on the large grassed area behind my house...got a few minor spillages...and it left small burn marks on the grass!! So cant see site owners agreeing to you doing this job on their site(assuming you ask)unless you pitched on a hardstanding area....As for the question of leaving it to dry overnight....I started mid morning...finished by 1 pm..and left the unit up till 7-8pm...was completely dry...folded it away...and have had no probs since...should mention...the reproofing was done on a really warm day...and that would have had some bearing on the drying process.............

Jelboy.

PS:Please remember..if doing this job on site(and presumably sleeping in the unit over night) there are health and saftey issues with fumes from the spraying process to consider........

follow up .......

hi all , just a quick follow up to the mud bath saga . ended up putting a power hose on the beast ( not to close or it would have damaged the canvas ) in my front garden . could not peg it out so when it dried .... boy does canvas shrink some when its wet   . anyway when it had dried we packed it away & rang up my wifes uncle who has a sheep farm in hereford . no problem says he , so off we set a week later after removing beds , innertents etc . arrive at said farm to be told which field we could pitch her in . went to see field . wish i'd brought my crampons it was that steep . still he was doing us a favour so cant complain . so put up tent , while steping in sheep cr*p which were there the previous day & started to spray after masking all the windows . a lovely windy day it was to so got covered in fabsil however when i have a shower i now bead up great and am totaly waterproof . i dont know what type of ground they have in hereford but ive never seen a rock peg bend like that before . didnt bother to try the normal pegs after that . still at the end of the day i got it done (3, 5l tins of fabsil £ 90 ) so it shouldn't need to be done for a while , barring any more mud baths . thanks for all the help everybody .

regards , bernie
