another weekend booked at bank hol, and not on EHU. so my cousin mentioned that he had a good 12v large battery, and said I could put this in the TT , and use it to run a light from. My questions are, how easy would it be to rig a light to it, would I still need an inverter ? how would a table lamp connect to it? also if I just bought a 150 watt inverter from say maplins, that plugs into the cigarette lighter, how long could I run a table lamp off it before I was reaching a danger point on my cars battery?
it's only a light I need, for a couple of hours to read with, wash up etc?? your thoughts please fellow campers
------------- Adventures can start or end anywhere, you just need the right attitude
For a start go for the 12 v batt if you can, and make sure its FULLY charged before you go. You can use an inverter and the use a normal light, but its much, much better to use a 12v one ( cost about a tenner ? ).
Fully charged the battery will be fine for a weekend, even using the inverter and a normal lamp, but as i said the 12v light would be a better option.
Many 12 v lights have crocadile clips that connect to the battery direct, or if you use an inverter they will have appropriate connections. If you stuck give me an email.
We use 12v lights all the time they are small fluorescent tubes and clip to the frame and attach to the battery by croc clips. Ours were nearer £15 than £10 .
------------- Good friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget.
I use a 12V car batt for running all my lights (12v fluorescent type) and run a small black and white TV from it for a couple of hours over a weekend, and do not notice any drop in the brightness of the lights.
hi we use a large 12v wagon battery it cost us £25 five yaers ago( i work in a garage so i got it at trade ) and apart from charging it up each time we need it we have no problem with using it for a week at a time its never even started a car but we use the 12v lights on it so you should be ok for a weekend
I used to "borrow" my workvan,s battery and had no probs at all. If you only want a light for a few hours a day how about geting a campinggaz lantern ? I used to use one in the back of my old army truck and found them a good source of light and warmth as well !!. Hope this helps , regards THUMPER.
