Well, we have done it - bought a bargain 2002 conway classic trio - have tried to put it up just the once so far - took us 4 hours, and part of the reason was because we haven't got an instruction book! We got all tangled up when it came to putting on the poles for the awning and then the canvas, or the canvas and then the poles. We couldn't get the order right, and then we found it really hard to tension the canvas. The other reason it took so long the two kids (aged 4 and 18 months). So ... help! We need some good advice, and is possible, and instruction manual. We've contacted pullman, but no reply so far (bank holiday I guess!).
Have you tried T.V.S ask for Graham as he might be able to help in all things conway or join the club and go on a rally and ask for help we dont bite we have a lot of people with all types of conways.
Got a 2002 Trio ourselves this year, our first time was about a two hour ordeal and we have been trailer tenting for about 6 years. Don't despair it does get easier. we now pitch up within an hour but have had it up 5 times this year already.
Tips
1. If you don,t have them already get 3 pole bags and label them 1.5m, 2.5m and extension to organise your poles.
2. When erecting the 2.5m awning we find it easiest to zip it on and throw it onto the roof of the tent, assemble the main frame of the awning to full height, including centre pole, then have one person on each side pull the awning over the frame. Stretch out the poles, assemble the extension then peg down before attempting to attach the 1.5m awning. when pegging out make sure all zips are closed or you run the risk of overstreching
3 Attach the 1.5m awning the same way as the 2.5. Before pegging out remember to zip in the door and leave closed.
We have an instruction manual, but it is not very helpful I think for a novice it will be more of a hindrence and cause you confusion, if you want I can scan the main instructions and email them to you but beware they are pretty basic.
Thanks Alfie - very good advice which makes a lot of sense. Will give it another go soon. Don't worry about the instruction book - I think we can cope without it now. Thanks for your help.
Hi tt virgin
We have a Cabanon trailer tent which although coming with instructions, they aren't very clear. We had two bags of poles and a mountain of canvas. The first time we tried to put it up, we didn't know which poles where for which awning (1.5 or 2.5)as the bags weren't marked. After several hours, the site warden came to help and 3 other couples who themselves took about an hour to figure it out!
We have now not only marked the bags, but also colour coded the poles so we know how they attach together. We also leave all the awning zipped to the trailer and as alfie suggests, thrown over the trailer and folded up with it. That makes life so much easier.
Our 12 yod was a godsend as although she didn't help that much erecting it, she did fill the water butt up, put the kettle on and made coffee
