Have towed our fc a few times now with no problems but i have been told by some caravaners that i need a Stabiliser . surly there is no need as i haven't had any problems even at 60mph(motorway)with it swaying any advise is much appreciated.
Don't see why you need a stabilser on a tt/fc as they are not that high. To me if they needed one the would be fitted for it as standard. We tow our tt without one and have had no trouble with it.
Re stabiliser on folding campers, when we moved up to a folding camper from a tt, first time out on the motorway , i got in to a frightening snake , saying that it was my own fault going to fast down hill, not realising that the folder weighed a lot more than the tt, i went out and purchased alko stabiliser and hitchlock, on reflection i do not think a folder needs a stabiliser, but it does give me piece of mind , and the hitchlock is so easy to fit , PS stay within the speed limits and you should have no trouble with snaking , also find mine tows better by keeping the nose weight near the maximum
Ours came with it built into the tow hitch. I don't think you need it but we do use it. Its harder to badly load a camper as there isn't much option as to where to put your stuff.
------------- Good friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget.
our pathfinder came with one too but the smaller countryman didn't - actually preferred towing the bigger on ebut not sure if this was due to anything in particular - just felt more stable
Hi i used to tow caravans regular without a stabiliser with out any problems if you load up corrrectly keep your tyres pressures correct and your speed down to the proper limit 50/60 you should have no problems, i now tow a pennine pullman and its like a rock tows a dream the one thing i will say is that some trailers are better than others for towing this i have experenced in the past happy towing paul!
Never needed one myself, but only had two units, a Raclet TT and my present one. Have accidentaly got them both to about 80 with no problems at all, so I suspect there is something wrong if you feel you need one, like uneven loading or tyre pressures wrong.

I like the odd drink. Five is odd, seven is odd, nine is odd...........
Never had a problem with the towing but am new to towing a larger unit as i has my tent and equipment in an erde 102 before, will take onboard about the tyre pressure and speed and will see how things go, am off to derbyshire next sunday so will find out more or less then.
One thing i forgot to had you may know anyway but make sure if you can put any heavy item/s over the axle [ in line with the wheels ] in the trailer this keeps it balanced, to much weight in front affects the nose weight to much in rear trys to lift the hitch off the towbar and that would not be good!! lol Paul
Hi saahjane - never needed a stabiliser - we have a hitchlock and I have to admit I forgot I was towing at one point and hit 85-90 before I realised OOOPS!. We have experienced some snaking when going downhill on motorways near lorries but nothing to be phased about. I would bet it's the loading and there are only so many places to put things!
Not that much room inside the sterling 510 once you have put wardrobe down table, waste hog, water etc but do use the cupboards ,try to put most of the heavy things over the axle to help reduce snaking. about the 85-90mph i would need to stop my car well before i get there just to reduce the risk of bits falling off it.lol.
I to have never felt the need for a stabliliser when towing, but i think it is all in the way you drive, keep to the speed limits and do not overload your unit,i am amazed at what some people pile on top of their units with no regard to weight.
I think its down to your preference, if you want one put one on.
I do not use one with my American Coleman pop up and it tows fine (even forgot it was on the back at one point and accidentally got up to 80). But I had a Conway tt before and I thought that it felt more stable with a stabilizer on because it bounced about a little without it.
