Have been camping with family for several years, always with a tent and currently have a Khyam (great tent).
Have been thinking about moving onto a trailer tent for some time now, as the thought of sleeping off the floor has become more appealing as I get older. But trailer tents generally seem to be more time consuming and difficult to erect when compared to my Khyam (I know this is a generalization, and I say this as someone who has zero experience of trailer tents - so don't slaughter me).
I have found the Stratos trailer tent (see link below) from Cabanon, which seems to provide the best of both worlds. trailer tent sleeping compartment with an awning that seems to be as quick and easy to erect as dome tent.
does anyone out there have any experience, knowledge or first hand info on these. I think they are new for 2006 and I have not been able to find out any more about them.
Sorry for lambling on, and thanks for any comments or advice
We have just bought one of these after being tent campers for a couple of years. Unfortunatley we don't collect it until the 1st of April! But we have been back to visit it regularly at the place we bought it from (sad I know).
I have a PDF copy of the brochure for the Stratos if you would like me to forward it to you.
It can apparently be erected in less than 30 minutes (except for pegging out), and is unique among trailer tents because of the fitted ground sheet and its dome shape. It only has 3 poles in the awning which are all the same, so no confusion as to which pole where!
There are pictures of erecting a cabanon trailer tent (not the startos) on the cabanon site http://www.cabanon.com/gb/montage/frame_montage.htm if the link doesn't work just go to ercting techniques from the home page.
We had looked at TT's before but were always put off by the frame tent awnings and the curtains! (sorry if we upset anyone!) But when we saw this it instantly appealed (we had only gone looking for a table), it looks great, appears to be of excelent quality and solves all of our storage and transport requirements.
I will let you know more when we get it and have had chance to erect it.
Cabanon as the best canvas and the strtos looks brill i have the jupiter which is a large tent i wish i had only three poles and a built in groundsheet
A PDF copy of the brochure for the Stratos would be great, not sure how we exchange email adress in the forum (this is all new to me - i've just learnt how to connect to the tinternet).
Where are you buying your Stratos from, I would like to find a stockist near me to have a look at one in the flesh.
We are gettings ours (only 8 days to go) from Caseys camping at the Grosvenor Garden Centre near Chester where they have one on display. We have opted for the version without the kitchen as we have a stove etc from the tent.
Does anybody know how to privatley swap email addresses on the forum?
There is not a private messenger system on this website. However if you press the contact us button (in yellow) on the main menu at the top of the page..... and let webby know who you want to have your email addy I am sure they will pass it on for you
I think the T T looks really fab, very new design and if it easier to put up then even better
We have only put the trailer part of it up and not the awning, and I rekon we could do the trailer in about 10 minutes including pegging it out and putting up the sleeping compartments.
The awning is a cotton canvas (and is a lot thicker than our previous wynnster tent) and the poles are very light weight (I presume aluminium and are linked together by shock cord). The instructions that came with it don't include how to erect the stratos awning (but I have emailed cabanon) - but we were talked through it all by the place where we bought it, after a demonstration of how to pitch the trailer bit.
We have loaded it all up and had no trouble getting all our stuff in the floor of the trailer and the lockers - the sleeping bags are on the beds.
We probably aren't going to get to use it until 22/23rd April or the May Day bamk holiday - I will post more then.
I have now seen one of these in the flesh, they look fantastic and don't look like they are difficult to erect (including the awning).
I do like the zipped in ground sheet, but wonder about cleaning, "wear & tear" and how practical that will be. Do you intend to use another ground sheet under it to protect it?
As I said in the original post I have a tent at the moment but am very tempted by one of these, make sure you update us after your first trip.
I don't know the model but would say that T-Tents are great when they're up but weekending can be a bit lengthy to put-up then take down. Long weekends and longer they're a really great investment.
A Combi-camp addresses this problem as they're so slick compared to a traditional T-Tent.
