I am off on ho's to France soon and have just found out that whilst my Pathfinder is only 6 weeks old - If I need the rear cycle rack the only ooption "was" to have it factory fitted as UK law now dictates that it needs a rear light board that needs factory fitted wiring into the brakes system etc. This means a rear elec. socket for the board to plug into that's only fitted at build-time.
However, I'm only looking to carry a few small kids bikes short-term so i'm looking to get hold of a carrier and not obstruct the lights. Pennine I do't think will seel mea rack under legal grounds so does anyone know where I can get one from ????
I simply need one as my roof box only allows 2 bikes on the roof and my tow-bar is detachable so can't hold a cycle carrier rack whilst towing. Also I have an estate and dog so a bar-attachable obstructing the boot is still a non-starter anyway.
The rear cycle rack on a pathfinder is just an addition on the rear bed frame to fit the cycle rack ie two brackets to hold the uprights. these were subject to a recall last year so be careful if you get on from someware other than pennine. When I bought our pathfinder last year the socket was not factory fitted for a lighting board but was fitted by the dealer so this is possible.
If you are only carrying children's bikes, have you investigated carying them within the unit itself? Once the camper is folded, there is quite a large space in the middle between the bed boards. I have in the past put a sheet on top of the canvas to protect it from damage, and carriied a bike in this way.
Obviously, you need to be aware of the total weight carried, and avoid exceeding maximum allowed, but I think the weight of the bikes would be much better in that central area, over the axel, rather than hung on the rear where they could easily create a pendulum effect.
We pick our Pathfinder up next week and asked for the cycle rack to be fitted for £139,they did say if I did not wish to purchase the rack now I could always buy one at a later date and fit it myself as it is an easy DIY job.The kit will still cost £139 though!.Best people to talk to is Highbridge, they are very helpful and their number is : 01278 782 725.
we have just come back off holiday and took two bikes with us the kids are 8 and 10 we rolled the cover back on the camper took the 4 poles out and put the bikes in wrapped in old sheets then replaced poles and cover they fit great just take a spanner and undo the handle bars so you can lie them flat
We have a normal roof mounted cycle rack that i sometimes put on the bed support.
I pull out the support fully then connect the bike rack on with the u bolts provided, connect the bike to it and push the support in as far is i can without touching the rear of the camper and then making a note on the bed support sides, drill in 2 holes one on each side so that the bed support locks back into place securing it whilst driving.
Hi Blood what will you pull your pathfinder with when you get it?
Did you not have a look at J R leisure in lambley near nottingham at folding campers ,we got ours from them?
Highbridge is a long way to go and get a pathfinder from.
Hello Jason and Sarah-Jane,We have a 2ltr Renault laguna estate that should tow upto 1200 kg so well within limits. We did look at JR leisure but found that it was well worth the journey to highbridge (company van) because the money we saved payed for side skirts, bike rack and al-ko stabiliser and lock.We did our home work and asked all the questions about what if this that and the other goes wrong. When we pick the camper up on Thursday (getting a little excited now)they will spend 1 to 2 hours going through every thing with us. They will pressure test the water and gas system and then we will spend a long weekend down there. If any thing goes wrong hopefully it will be then.If later on we have problems for example a hinge breaks then they will send one in the post.If some thing major happens then we will have to take the camper down south to them, they will either supply us with a loan camper so we can make a week end of it or fix it there and then and give us a token to help pay for the camp site.
cool... have fun and don't forget to join the pennie owners club we are going to there main holiday this year in somerset but we couldn't make any of the weekends due to the wife work commitments, you will also get 10% of your fc insurance through the owners club.
Here is there LINK
I don't think you can beat Highbridge for service or price (we tried!) Remember they normally allow you 10% discount in their shop when you buy there we also got a voucher for Northam Farm which is about 5? miles away at Brean.
