As new campers,my wife and I have just bought a Wild Country Homestead 7,and have just had a go at setting it up in our friends back garden. I have to say that the instructions were absolutely awful, and I ended up more than a bit frustrated at having to fumble my way through, though we sort of got there in the end.

Does anyone have any tips on setting one up, have we bought a good tent etc? Any advice would be very welcome.

Gerry
We have a homestead 5 and also found that the instructions were unhelpful at best. After trying different ways we have found the following method of erecting the homestead 5 works for us.
1. Insert all the poles and clip them into the tape that runs across the tent.
2. Peg down the front by the zips (the instructions say the back if I remember) then pull into position adjusting the poles as required.
3. It is then possible to peg out the back correctly.
4. For us the critical thing seem to be that the center pole must be vertical.

We really like this tent as a weekend / short use as we also have a 7 berth frame tent. (this was our first, the homestead was bought as a weekend tent)
Regards.

Thanks, FB.

This tent is side entry one but the principle seems the same. I left the inner tents attached whilst I erected it, but leaving them out until the flysheet is up seems a more logical (and lighter) thing to do.

The tapes that run across the tent have a red tape sewn into them, they appear to show how long the tapes should be, thus how far the frame sides should be, though nowhere is this mentioned. Am I right, or do they have some other function?

Guess I'll have to have a few more goes before the off. Thanks again.
