Dandys are fantastic. Thier main bonus is the PVC material that can be packed away wet indefinatley. A boon in our climate !!! They are tough as old boots & really easy to modify to your own requirements. As for towing the Designer, 5 , Discovery & Dart you,ll never know are on the back. They can be manhandled packed up easily on site aswell.
The proper solid sides & caravan door make the whole unit seem secure & sturdy aswell. The bigger Destiny & 6 I could,nt tell you about as I,ve never used one, but they don,t look a problem. Having switched from canvas, I,d never go back !!! On the 80s models the interior looks dated but is easily modded. They are also 101% waterproof unless you rip a hole in it !!! But even that would take some doing on the roof section.
I can get mine up in around 10mins on my own. Add another 15 -20 for the awning. The original Dandy awning is a swine of a thing but many people adapt other awnings or like I do use a motorhome stand alone type. Go on you wont be dissapointed.
THUMPER.

Had ours open only this afternoon, giving it a clean and tidy. Got a couple of little jobs to do but nothing to stop us using it anyway. Now have to get the running gear seviced and the tyres checked and we are ready for the off. Can't wait to get out in it again.
Had it for ten years now. And would like to get a newer one but keep this one as its been a good 'friend'. Easy to put up, easy to tow, easy this, easy that, easy everything.
Have a look here in the sales section, the most expensive is £9000! I like your definition of cheap! Seriously though dandies are great we're on our second, had the first for 10 years andwill probably keep this one about the same. They feel like a caravan inside but you've got beds made up all the time and they are great to tow. The most common comment I hear is "I have to keep looking in the mirror to remember it's there!" I was passed on the motorway once by one doing about 80, he slowed down after us as we were towing ours as well and I htink we reminded them! There's an owners club rally in Bridgewater in Novemebr if you want to meet some owners and can wait that long.
I agree what has been said about the Dandy. I have owned 3 types.
How do you put it up single handed. Is it brute force, do you use the handles, do you get at the centre of the bed and lift. I would like to have a canopy but not pay for a new one. Any ideas. I think I read someone used a camper van porch. Does this work.
My parents (both well into their 60s now) have just got a caravan (finally decided their camping lives would be longer with a caravan rather than the f/c when Dad broke his arm earlier this year) - they were committed Dandy fans though, having had 3. Their Destiny is for sale (rather a long way from Gloucester though - it's in Leeds) - I think they are after about £2300 for it, so it's rather out of your price bracket too. Dandy/Riva are good folding campers, totally weather proof, almost bomb-proof, and immune to the dreaded mildew!!
It was on the grass verge at Bakewell and we brought it, cleaned it up today and she is beautiful, if Wildie gets his car repaired and tow bar fitted, she will be at the National!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
