Hi you guys,   can i extend my electric hook up by using a caravan hook up with the male connector on end and female the other,the type of hook up i use is the three socket type sold for around £99.00 or can i just extend my own lead   thanks  mick

You can but if possible hang the joint from a hedge etc so that its vertical with the socket uppermost so that  water runs off rather than into the joint.

Many continental vans have the inlet socket exposed but its angled downwards.

Wrapping in polythene bags etc can cause condensation.

Yeah  - thats what I did with mine, make sure that the male /female connector isnt outside just incase the rain gets in.

As a failsafe, you can get these devices that are exterior waterproof "junction boxes" from places like B&Q for only a few quid - its worth that for piece of mind.

The C& CC advise that you may need an extension to the normal hook up lead on some rally pitches (specifically at Sarzeau ) and we had just this situation in the recent rally(it ends tomorrow) where two cables had to be joined.

I know because one was mine that I loaned out!!

The club would not dare to give such advice in these litigeous times if it was not valid.

The join in this case was outside as are many hook up box connections but with the socket angled downwards
