Yeah - thats what I did with mine, make sure that the male /female connector isnt outside just incase the rain gets in.
As a failsafe, you can get these devices that are exterior waterproof "junction boxes" from places like B&Q for only a few quid - its worth that for piece of mind.
They look like small bright red rugby balls!!!!!
