We have been told we can take the peddles off our childrns bikes turn the handlebars and  strap them to the top of trailer tent cover by use of wrench straps is this advisable?

You can do it, but......there`s always little pointy bits on bikes and they can damage the transit cover just by abrasion. So if you do decide to, put another layer underneath them, like an old travel rug. And for goodness sake strap them on well. You can get stopped by the police for having insecurely attached loads.

Better though is a proper bike rack, either towball mounted or rack mounted. I don`t like strap on bike racks myself, but it`s up to you. The other thing I`ve seen is a couple of bike racks mounted across the A-frame of the TT, if you have an A-frame but no box.

After reading the posts on packing a tt i think better alternative would be not take the roof box put bedding in tt under transit cover didn't think of that and put bikes on cycle carriers roof mounted as we have those

Another idea you may want to considor at a later date.  When we changed cars we had to have a tow ball fitted to our new car so we got the type fitted that will take a bike rack. You can still tow the TT  with the cycle rack and bikes fitted.  It is the best type of bike rack we have ever had, much more secure than the other type.

What a great idea, was the base frame made or brought of the shelf

Hi Andy,

I made the base frame out of a set of plastic coated roof bars bought from Halfords. There is a bit of welding involved but the result works perfectly.

This is what I would like to do, but can't helo feeling that the nose weight - about 75kg - would be greatly affected. How do you get around this problem?

Love the idea of putting bikes on the A-Frame. Very ingenious! Unfortuneately my fridge box is too useful to sacrifice.

I find the easiest way to carry bikes is on roof mounted bike racks Thule ones are ideal - they are out of the way and don't affect towing - just watch car park height barriers!
