When I open out my camper at the moment there is a smell of old drains initially and closer inspection does prove it is wafting from the sink. What is the best way of cleaning a drain? Would the water system cleaners be the best am just wondering how I am going to plug the outside drainage to keep the fluid in the drain for a good soak.... (I was wondering what sort of bung to place at the outlet point... Suggestions gratefully received.
I put a "baby bottle sterilising" tablet in ours. Plug the end of the drain tube with cotton wool, crush the tablet and pour warm water on it till it comes back up to the sink level. Put the sink plug in and leave it for a bit. I also do the aquaroll and waster container at the beginning of the season. When you pack up put a teaspoonful of bicarb of soda down and it should stay sweet. Don't completely block both ends of the tube incase you practise the "big bang " theory.

We use Milton as it's not as strong smelling as normal bleach, and it's also safe to use in the water containers, both waste and fresh water (check the dilution instructions on the bottle - I can't remember the quantities)
Milton is just dilute bleach something I learnt in a pharmacology lecture many moons ago... Thank ILican.. I am trying to get away this weekend but everything is conspiring against me at the moment.
Hi - we have aConway Crusader and usually Milton the pipes and barrel at the beginning of the season - for emergencies i carry a bottle of Mr. Muscle sink unblocker as the waste pipes are quite narrow and can easily get blocked up.
If we are staying on a serviced pitch that has a waste water drainage point then i usually try and put a "U" bend in the long outlet pipe that comes from the camper and this stops any smells coming up from the drains!
