I love using our folding camper, but it is a chore explaining to campsite owners what a folding camper is. I know what other forms of camping are and their variations. Do campsite owners care only for caravans. Does anyone else find it a pain?
Hi Brian, we have the same problem. I booked the FC into a caravan club site, I used the on line booking form. When you come to tickk the box you either tick caravan or TT as there isn't a section for FCampers. So I ticked caravan, when we arrived the man said , oh you are a TT. So we booked in as a Tt the next time at a different club site we got there and were told we are a caravan, we should have booked in as a caravan. What does it matter, you pay the same whatever you are. The other thing i get is you ring up and try and book and you tell the owners we have a FC, they then usually say what CC is the engine? You then tell them we are not a camper van we are a FC, the bottom half is like a caravan, the unit opens up like a TT,oh I know what you mean they then say.
No we've been to caravan only and tent only sites! We never pay for the awning on our trailer tent! and we use hardstanding in our canvas topped caravan if it suits us. 9 times out of 10 they either expect a camper van or say oh its a trailer tent! Make the most of the confusion!
------------- Good friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget.
They are what ever you want them to be ie. Trailer tent if the site charges for awnings (have to have the awning up to use most trailer tents) or they can be a caravan if the site doesn't allow tents.
We have also found it works to our advantage. On sites where they don't take touring caravans it is a TT and on sites where they only take caravans it's a folding camper/caravan.
as others say, make the most of the confusion.
I had the same problem this week trying to explain what it is only to be told be the owner that I couldnt have a hook up as a trailer tent takes up too much room. No matter how much I tried to tell her that its the same size as a caravan and it doent need pegging out she just wouldnt have it, so I booked somewhere else in the end.
