I'm thinking of buying a second hand folding camper or tent trailer.

I've got a Toyota Corolla 1600cc petrol and in the spec it says that can tow up to 1300 kg (with brakes)  or 450kg (without brakes).

I don't know what this means ... do FC and TT come with brakes or not? If not this will seriously restrict options or which way i go

Hope someone can shed light on this.

many thanks

hi boueur, some fc'sdo have brajes and some dont best option is to go to a local camp/tent supplier and have a look at the various ones you may have to go to a few cos they seem to specilise in makes ie pennine or raclet / dandy etc the best person to tell you is the sales rep if he doesnt know ask him to find out its his job i usedto tow a small 10ft caravan with my 1300 cc astra no problems  i now have a conway tt cos it gives us more room set it out right and you have no problems use the underbed spaces for storage on one side and the other for the little camper asll the best

Hi & welcome. How many peeps do you wish to sleep ? Any trailer over 750kg (I think) must be braked by law. I,d recomend a Dandy FC either a 5 , Discovery or Designer. They will sleep 4 comfortable, they are braked & only run in at 500kg gross. Although your 1.6 motor will pull 1300kg it will struggle & fuel consumption will go ballistic !!! Dandys are also made of PVC so will never leak & will pack away wet indefinate. Look at www.rivaleisureltd.co.uk for more info.

Most small TTs dont come with brakes as they are realitvly light. While TTs with thier huge awning may give you more room. They are a lot more work in pegging out & setting up etc. You,ll also have a LOT of canvas to dry out in the event of a wet pack up !! FC,s only take 10 mins to set up (ex awning) . But its all horses for courses. If you have a tribe & space to dry out. Then a TT may be better. If you are a couple or small family then a FC is better. Definatley a Dandy IMHO  Good luck & you will find all you need to know on here.

THUMPER.

many thanks Andy and Thumper.

As you say i need to go and have a look and ask a few Q.

Thanks for the pinters about FC or TT... at moment i'm leaning towards FC, if only for convenience factor. A few more hours research yet though!!

cheers

Boueur
