I bought a Tow Trust kit from Towequipe (via ebay) for my Mondeo. £85 including single electrics and took me a couple of hours to fit. If your OH has access to a decent torque wrench and a multimeter he will be fine.

Second Tow Trust bars from Towequipe . I got one for my Passat for similar price inc post . It came with single electrics and connectors, ball , bumper protector and full fitting instructions inc car specific wiring instructions . Also didn't require a bumper cut which was important to me .

Most of Towequipes stuff avoids bumper cutting, which is a real bonus - could remove it and apart from a blanking grommet from the electrics you'd be hard pushed to tell a bar had been fitted.

I am a bit of a bargain hunter. I rang around the scrap yards for a towbar for my Mondeo.

Found one, a Witter with dual electrics, just by where I work for £30.

Then I phoned a local tow bar / trailer suppliers where I live and he fitted for £50.

So that's a total of £80 for a dual electric witter towbar. Nice one.

Pengwyn.

Good idea, providing the bar isn't too rusty or has been bent by a rear impact. Proof that you can't buy used items like this without having a good look at them. A couple of scrappies near me refuse to sell them for that reason.

towquipe for bargins.
make sure you got a tape measure to measure the ball height after you fitted one, you may find some types are to low when not even in use so you may need a dropper plate, yeah sounds daft, or you may end up towing with a V shape, front wheels up rear down trailer nose down big time if you loaded the boot as well.

i have a renault clio at the moment and it cost me 155 for single electrics witter towbar fitted. as I have now passed my first year of driving I am upgrading to a 1.6 Ford Focus and the bloke will fit it for me at a reduced price of 150 seen as I have put him a lot of business his way and used him in the past. See who did your mates as they may offer you some discount.
