We've looked at various FCs and from what we've seen the best one to suit our purposes is either Dandy Destiny (or one of the larger Conway or Pennine ones with WC).

As we've not actually towed anything before i wonder if I'm kidding myself with the car we currently have. It's a Toyota Corolla. In the spec the towing capacity is 1300kg (if trailer fitted with brakes).

The Destiny is 780 kg -up to max 1000kg.

Does this seem like enough of a margin to be able to tow comfortably?

Would like to hear your views

many thanks

Boueur

Sounds fine. Easier to tow a camper than a tin shed anyway because of the better aerodynamics, so the margin sounds more than ideal.

once you have your camper hitched up you hardly notice it's there - i know i dont, well until i look in the mirrors.

i had never towed anything prior to picking up our camper either, and i have to say it is a breeze

We tow a Dandy four berth with no problems with a Zafira 1.8.

Couple of years ago there was me the OH, three strapping full size teenagers, a couple of three man tents, and the Dandy on in our party and the Zafira did really well, the OH forgot a couple of times the trailer was there even with the load in the car.

Many thanks for your responses.... apologies but been away .

The next thing to do is commit to getting a tow bar but my wife is having second thoughts.

As not done this before suggestion is we try and hire one...does anyone know of any company that can hire out for few days to trial? I'm not aware of any.

Cheers

Boueur

bouer why not visit a Dandy meet?  Give the club a ring and they will be only too willing... I should be at the one in Somerset and, not sure where you live, but would only be too happy to show you mine if it any use.

Regards to trying them out you could ask the owner of RIVA, not sure if he can hire one out.  I had this dilema when I bought mine, I visited a rally to see them in action... can honestly say have not regretted it one bit.
