I think you may overcome the smell with methylated spirit. (I quite like the smell of meths!). The smell of meths will go, after a few days.  Perhaps try a nice smelling wood polish onto the frame.

i pva-ed all our woodwork....stops the smells,

i might also insulate the underside of the beds,outside, to keep them warm.....?

As I have put on the other thread about this I replaced the boards and since then have had no problems.

hi we have just brought a 2001 feista same smell why havent pennine recaled them as this seems to be a problem in production . was it very easy to replace the boards and to do the riveting
