Asa guy whos job it is to lock these scum up - NEVER leave your car and trailer unattended ever unless it is life or death. gangs hang around service stations and look for vans and trailers to rob. a hitchlock will get you around 5/10 mins whilst they get it off. always try and leave someone in the car with the trailer if you can.
There are great advantages to service station thefts - 1. victims rarely know the area they are in so find it hard to give chase if they see it go OR report their locations to police if they do or know where to look
2. you are straight onto the motorway and gone at high speed amongst heavy traffic 3. no one bats an eyelid at someone fiddling with a trailer in a service station 4. the car is generally at some distance from the central toilet area, and as they are often busy - you will take time. 5. if you have a family, then thieves will watch you and know you will all have to go and refresh before you come back so you will take a while longer 6. ID's are hard as people come and go at all times - eg. no one sticks out in a service area as opposed to a local garage
So please try and avoid leaving you outfit unnattended, average theft time is 6 mins...
