I am considering second hand trailer tents as my other half won't camp in a tent. I dont want to spend more than £600ish. What sort of age will this buy me and in what sort of condition. Also have seen a few sunncamps, conways (which I camped in as a child) and raclets on ebay. What are the main differences? I know the quality is better in some makes, but in what way and is it so superior to justify price?
At that price it`s down to older stuff, so make sure you see the thing erected, and give it a thorough going over. You might find a minter that`s been dry garage stored all its life that is 15 years old, or a rotten mildew-ridden wreck that`s been abused and kept outside that is only 5 years old
Condition, not age is what to look for. Conways are abundent. Maybe ring a few dealers looking for a part-ex bargain ? try Camperlands in Manchester, they have loadsa stuff, including ex-hire etc.

Stored outside doesn't necessarily mean wrecked - when I sold my 10-year old Cruiser (many years ago now), it had been outside from new, and its canvas was 9 years old (Conway fitted a new one FOC when it was a year old as it was one of the very first built and the front panel was a touch too small - it used to burst the door zip. So Conway fitted a new canvas to it once they had identified the problem). Canvas, running gear, everything, was in very good condition as it had been regularly used and correctly maintained.
So don't dismiss a trailer that has been stored outside without inspecting it.
I just bought a fab Raclet tt for £200 from www.swapz.co.uk it is a 1990/91, but has been stored in a garage and not used for the past 5 years. There are some bargains out there - loads on ebay at present. Look on ebay for ones in you local area, and ask to go and have a look first.
