Well, what can I say, another miserable weekend under canvas. Loads of really boring steam traction engines to see and to "ooh!" and "aah!" over and deafen you with their whistles, not to mention the tatty old lorries, cars and motorbikes! So many stalls selling all sorts of stuff I just couldn't decide what to spend my money on! Mind you, if I could have afforded it I would have bought a generator! (See below!)
The campsite was no better, I knew it was going to be a problem when the campers from the Motorhome Club formed all their vans into a circle with parapets in between. All the UKCS people were beating me with big sticks to drive me away, and as always I ended up as Billy-no-mates-last-man-standing when everybody ran away and left me whilst my tent dried out. If it hadn't been for Stu, Mrs Stu, Mac and his brother (the Good-in-Tent crew, and why is it I can remember some names and not others? Incipient dementia maybe?) I'd have died from terminal loneliness, apart from Hil and Paul and Mart and Janet that is, not to mention Ratty Horses and about a zillion others.
I won't mention the massive Hobby caravan that pitched next door to me and insisted on running a generator (now you see why eh?) at 07:15 or thereabouts on the Saturday morning, OK, it wasn't that loud, but it was loud enough to drown out my tinnitus. They could at least have waited until I'd got a couple of cups of coffee and three or four ciggies down my neck! As I say though, I won't mention it 'cos it would be boring!
As for Pam and 'T Committee moving heaven and earth to re-stage the whole event after it was washed out in July, I don't know why they bothered, it's not as though many people turned up!
All joking aside now, I had a great weekend thanks to the Elvaston Steam Rally Committee and our hosts. Well done everyone and thanks for your hospitality the Good-in-Tent family!
Glad that TEIOZ had a good time even though he was wrong about the time the genertor went on as my son took a bouncy castle for all the children to go on at no charge for the past three years and had no complaints before you .Also my son was not only people with a hobby caravan .Many parents were glad he brought the castle .Also i dont go away for my children to get dog poo on them as some kind dog owner didnt bother to clean it up and let they dog wee on castle .Thanks to Pam for a good weekend .
My apoliges to Tolaz as we thought he was having ago at us for gennerator at 7.15 in the mornig as my son has a hobby to .But we were talking to Geoff and Ann who said you were in tent near road side very sorry for my mistake .
