Hi

Me and my family (me, wife and son) are seriously considering holiday-ing sept 08 - by travelling through france and onto maybe spain or italy - for 3 weeks.

Slighty limited on dates we are able to go - due to work commitments - rough date would be from the 29th August for 3 weeks.

Although we camp a lot we havent never camped abroad - so this would be a totally new experience for us!

Was wondering if anyone had done this before - or would like to do it (maybe again?) but is too scared to do it alone - like us!!

Be greatful for any advice etc or if anyone would like to accompany us thatd be great!

Mark

Hi Mark

for the last few years sept & oct we've been to the s of F generally staying in the aires in provence.  Excellent weather.  If you use the camp sites be aware that a lot are shut as the season over there is late june, july, & august, and maybe a bit of september.  It's a lot of travelling if you  want to fit in either spain or italy.

The municipal sites stay open a little longer, poss mid to late sept.  we sometimes use these sites on our way down south.

Provence is great in sept, you'd stay if you went that way.

If you post your route maybe I can help a little more.

regards

Allen

Check the campsite books & web pages. After the French school return some of the facilities shut down. Usually, the shop & I have even known the bar to shut.

Hi Mark

just read your post. my husband and I are going to the Vendee region Sept 5th 2008. last year we stayed in the Loire region.  The site we were on had a lot of casual campers as indeed we became because the site we booked in Loire valley was grotty.  We stayed in Samur.  If you want the details email me because as I am a silver surfer it takes me a while to cut and paste the details.  We have booked at La Garangeoire at St. Julian der something or other for this years holiday. If you are in this region from 5th Sept onwards asnd would like to meet up again email us and we will see if something can be arranged.  The site owners in France are generally very helpful with any info required or help.  Last year we had a problem with the electric hook-up to our car.  The tourist info office gave us directions to a caravan sales and they organised for an electrician to come to site. had to make do with mostly hand signals and phrase book because we couldn't speak each others language but he sorted prob for us on the site.

As I have already said if you need any other info we can help you with please email us or post on here.

Have as nice holiday and just remember, the driver is always curbside.

bye for now

Janice
