Just looking to buy a campervan and stuck between two
Nissan elgrande and Mazda bongo - really can’t decide and would appreciate advice.
I’m leaning towards the elgrand but the fuel consumption is putting me off.

I am looking at a Nissan el grand 06 reg which is lovely and everything I wanted but I’ve been told it is heavy on petrol as it is 3.5 litre engine.
The Mazda bongo is 1999 reg 2.5 litre engine
I like both but would prefer the Nissan as it’s more luxurious however the idea of not being able to travel far because of high petrol costs.
The bongo is older and potentially more problems

Personally, I wouldn’t choose by the mpg. One expensive repair will take up any savings you make buying the more efficient engine. Which one has less rust & fewer miles on the clock? Which one has a recent Habitation Service? Or recent vehicle service?
Bongo does have a good reputation but owners of either will advise….

Thanks. That’s what I’m hoping for. Obviously the Nissan is 6 years younger than the bongo.

Elgrand is reportedly very reliable but does drink petrol for fun, 23 mpg on average. If you're light on the pedal . Around town it's much worse

I had a Bongo at one time. Lovely vehicle to drive, very comfortable and reasonably good on fuel for its size. I used it as my everyday transport going to and from work in it. Mine was a diesel automatic 4WD, as most of the ones I saw were. Very good owners club too. I would certainly recommend them.
