We have a 2018 autotrail apache and the indicators randomly flash just once.It is parked on the drive. All lights are working ok.Some days it doesnt do it.Can anyone help please.
Take the bulbs out and give them a clean with Brasso around the holder and the pin at the base. They may have a film of surface corrosion but also check the earth terminals too whilst the lenses are removed.
I have no experience with LED lights so can't offer any other advice really apart from checking that all connections are secure and not corroded. However, there may be a relay in the wiring circuit that has malfunctioned in which case will need to be tested respectively with the right equipment. If you have Home Start breakdown cover you could call them out to identify the problem.

The AA Home Start is just for when you can't start the vehicle outside the house. OP can drive the MH to a garage when the restrictions on travel are lifted & they'd run a diagnostic.
A quick Google suggests things like the alarm battery might need to be charged. (No, I didn't know the alarm had a battery.) But it's obvious that I'm not a mechanic.
I've got AA Home Start which they came out to me when my car's engine actually started up at home. An amber icon illuminated on the dash display after starting up which the error code was eliminated (dirt in the fuel). Home start is exactly what it is because having defective tail lights would be an MOT failure anyway therefore illegal to drive on the public highway. Lights are a tricky one though as they could say that it was indeed a garage repair.
It could be either a vehicle fault code showing, so read your vehicle drivers handbook that most of us leave in the glove box for the first 4 or 5yrs.! While you are there write down your key numbers and tyre pressures etc all thase sad things that we never have the time to do! No excuse now(LOL) Good luck but it could be a simple thing that you have not switched over the batteries from being isolated, or similar? Good luck, Jon..

It could be triggered by your alarm system. When someone rings my daughters front door bell the car across the road alarms and disalarms causing indicators to flash. Does it do it when parked in other places.
Thankyou for your reply.
It occurs randomly at any location. As it is just the rear indicators, first the left flashes, then a short delay, the right flashes. The left can the flash 5, 10, or 30 seconds later, followed by the right. Or not at all.
The autotrail body control module has been reprogrammed, but has made no difference.
I have an idea what it is, but it would be nice to confirm my theory.
Thanks.
Do you live near large overhead electricity pylons. I understand they can light up fluorescent tubes below them if they are aligned with the field. I just wonder with LEDs.
Thankyou for the idea. No,no overhead power lines. I am positive the intermittent flashing is controlled by the body conversion, body control module, (ECU).
I am waiting for feedback from Autotrail.
Thanks.
Direction/hazard indicator circuits are load sensitive for fault detection. A certain load has to be present in the circuit for the flasher unit to function correctly. The problem is that LED lights take less current so either an adjustable flasher unit has to be installed or load compensation resistors have to be installed in parallel with each LED light.
Good evening. Thankyou for your reply.
I fully agree with your very good technical feedback.
However:-
The symptom is not when you are driving/ engine running/indicators being operated.
It occurs when the vehicle is parked/stationary/locked etc.
The rear indicators only, (not the side repeaters, or front indicators) flash randomly.
The time span between each flash can be every 10 seconds to once a minute or longer.
The nearside flashes first, immediately followed by the offside indicator.
I thought I was seeing things to start with.
Interesting one.......
Thanks again.
Poor Electromagnetic Compatibility if the vehicle uses a CANBUS control system for the lights. Also not sure if there are track clearance issues within the electronic switching/function modules. A case of surge/overcurrent can cause the printed circuit track to become detached from the circuit board substrate causing short circuits. This should be very unlikely however. Another cause could be the rapid on-off switching of the leisure battery charger (switched mode) if on an mains hook up. An improvised RF sniffer(portable battery transistor radio) could be used if brought upto any offending electronic unit whilst in operation. The reception may go into a buzzing sound. Would check the grounding wires as these could cause the symptoms if defective.
That's a really great reply. Thankyou and makes total sense.
I fully agree with your thinking and comments.
I believe as you say, the symptom is to do with the solar panel/charging system/rear vehicle lighting intergeneration.
The body/habitation area, uses its own module to connect into the vehicle body control ECU, as I assume the original vehicle electrics from the cab to the rear of the vehicle are removed.
The symptom occurs when vehicle is in a standalone situation. No 240v mains hook up.
I have assumed, by using the habitation interface/module CAN communication between the rear body lights/indicators and Solar Panel charger, the excess current/voltage is dumped through the indicators.
Apparently the supplying dealer has carried out a software upgrade to the habitation CAN BUS module. This has not cured the symptom.
Interestingly, the vehicle is fitted with a bicycle "tow bar" and 7 pin electrical socket. There might be an avenue for thought on this connection.
Perhaps disconnect the 7 pin from the Habitation module first?
It's refreshing to have someone who is technically able to give a reliable feedback.
Well done for taking your time to read and reply. Many thanks.
I hope to resolve the symptom soon.
Regards.
