I bought a Peugeot Boxer conversion with a Cascade Carver 2 GE fitted. I couldn't get the boiler to work on either gas or 240v. The 240v problem was a dodgy thermostat which I replaced and got working (yay!).
I sent the burner off to the eBay chappie who serviced it for me, but after re-fitting I still couldn't get it to work on gas (no click, nothing). I suspect it is an issue with the wiring, but can't find a wiring diagram anywhere (the manual doesn't show one). It's the rectangular 4-pin plug fitting, not the DIN plug type.
This is how it is currently wired up:
Green positive, connects to switch & green LED via a resistor
White negative, connects to earth (is that correct?)
Brown negative, connects to yellow LED
Red negative, connects to red LED
Anybody got any ideas please? It would be nice to have hot water without hook-up.
You need a fully charged leisure battery connected up for the source of the ignition to light the gas. If you have then you need to check that the battery isn't flat as this is the most likely reason why you cannot hear any clicking.
We never got our same water heater to work on gas - we had a habitation service done & the engineer said the burner was corroded. (That explained the whiff of gas outside the vent.) Fridge gas burner was the same.
At that time, we couldn’t get a replacement burner & that heater isn’t made any more. So we used the EHU or boiled a kettle on the gas cooker if we were off grid.
From memory (we don’t have the AS Clubman any more, or I’d go & look), we never had a wiring diagram though we had all the original paperwork.
Did you try the Search Facility, quite a few posts. Something might be useful.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I had a problem with the Cascade on my last van and it turned out to be the on/off switch (the one with 2 buttons). This switch is just a glorified electronic switch and I found that one of the transistors was duff, so I replaced it with one from my bits & pieces box. Really, the fancy switch could be replaced with an ordinary toggle / rocker switch.
If nothing is happening, I would check that you are getting 12V sent to the burner module. It works autonomously - you should hear a clunk as the gas valve opens followed by clicking as the igniter sparks. If it doesn't light you get another clunk as the gas valve closes.
If the leisure battery is low, just switch to the vehicle battery to test the heater.
------------- Two drifters off to see the world.
I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
The schematic i have (sorry no wiring diagram) for the Carver cascade 2 shows two fuses in the control panel, worth a check just in case one is loose or failed. it also says green wire is Positive and white is negative, no mention of the other colours though....also check that the gas is open and the inline gas valve (in the pipework) is open which is often missed.

Hi Johno
That is helpful knowing green is +ve and white -ve. I will remove the other wires and see what happens. Fuses are OK and I am getting 12v at the burner end. Gas taps are open
.
Just to add. I have an Elddis E2 control panel and the switch is built in there (not the original Carver switch)
Thanks
