after having a holiday in our motorhome although lovely van bailey autograph we decided that as we are not as agile as we used to be the when the bed was made up one had to climb over the other to use the loo at night, so arriving home we advertised it and the next day sold it, price was right didnt lose any value, had 20 nights away in it. so we will search for one that suits us but no rush i do have a couple of cottage holidays to go to yet, we did 11 nights on caravan club sites with fuel it came to £622 so a cheap holiday after the outlay ( which i got back). so after this week once again we are motorhome less.
You won’t be the first to change MH because of the night time trip to the loo. It’s why friends traded in their MH with a drop down bed - the ladder wasn’t ideal for a quick exit. It’s maybe not something people consider in the excitement of looking at the shower & how the dining table works. It’s good that you sold your vehicle without any problems - always a relief.
Other layouts are available, as you know, should you decide you miss the MH holidays.
We have just changed our Campervan as it was a Euro 5 and we live in the Greater Manchester clean air zone, so would be charged every time we took it off the drive, nearly every day. We took advantage of the change to choose a layout more suited to our current situation, and now have a toilet onboard at the back, a centre aisle, and 2 single beds so OH can easily access the toilet at night. He has been away on his own, the real test will be when we go away to France next month.
fiona w, its not our first motorhome home, we have had a few started motorhoming in the 80s, just that the last one we sold was in 2015 as we moved house, the problem was the bed was across the van which meant disturbing the partner when needing the loo, also the problem because its a bailey its wide and the problem is it didn't fit into parking bays and a warden told us if we go into a coach bay then he would issue a parking ticket, tried going to a morrisons in brecon and same again we couldnt park, also more trouble going down narrow lanes wwith oncoming traffic, so we decided to sell and we are thinking of getting a vw camper just for the odd night away. plus as franbee says if you are diverted off the motorway will you get hit with the (clean air charge). knowing greater manchester it covers a large area and we still have friends there so it would be impossible to visit.
We are now on our second motorhome, both Baileys. The first one was a fixed bed and as you say getting up for the loo is not straightforward for the person on the inside. We now have a slightly smaller Alliance motorhome with two single settees which gets over that problem.
