hi guys, can anyone recomend a pair of decent ramps for Motorhome
i have read so many stories of certain models failing ie cracked or split etc.
many thanks p.
You will find that the Milenco brand are the most sturdy ramps to buy for a motorhome. However, they are not the cheapest on the market but you get what you pay for. I've recently purchased a pair of Milenco tyre savers for my caravan as the last two pairs I bought eventually cracked and the Milenco ones look much sturdier with a larger ground mass than the ones with the internal ribs.
We’ve got Fiamma ramps, yellow, not much “lift”, light, neat size, now 20+ years old & still fine.
We also have Milenco Quattro ramps, black, 4 levels (huge lift!) but we’ve not been brave enough to get up to level 4 on a sloping pitch yet, wide enough for modern MH tyres, very heavy & huge - at least double the size & weight of the Fiamma.
If we know we’re going to a site where pitches aren’t flat, we’ll take the muckle big Milenco, too big for our skirt locker, so they have to travel in the washroom. Otherwise they stay at home. The Fiamma are always with us, travelling in the locker, albeit they’re a bit narrow for the tyres.
One key point - you cannot reverse onto the Milenco. We tried & skidded instead, quite scary, then noticed a big red cross through a cartoon of reversing on.
We’ve noticed a trend of people using a ramp even on perfectly flat pitches, no idea why. If we can’t actually feel a slope or see one, we don’t bother with one.
The reason why motorhoming people use ramps on a perfectly flat pitch is because the front end is nose heavy due to the weight of the engine. If you place a spirit level in the habitation doorway after immediately parking up this will prove my theory that the motorhome needs leveling up. This is for two reasons which the first is for waste water drainage and the other is that some fridges can be temperamental if they are not level and won't function effectively.
We used to use the Fiamma ramps, they were OK but didn't allow for much adjustment. We then won some Milenco ramps in a magazine competition, these have a much higher rise and allow for a lot more adjustment, we have been "brave enough" to go up on the top step, we did feel as though we were perched rather than sited on the pitch.
The chief ramp placer (the wonderful Mrs Wez), prefers the Fiamma ramps because they're lighter and more wieldy, each ramp weighs 5kg and is half as high as her when stood on end. We only use the Milenco ramps now.
As for levelling on what appears to be a perfectly flat pitch, few seldom are, but tango55 has hit the nail on the head, water drainage is the main reason these days but on our first motorhome, the fridge was temperamental when on running on gas if the motorhome wasn't level, so I guess we just got into the habit.
We have a spirit level which sits in a pocket in the cab so it's easy to check whether were level, these days, if we're almost level and the slope is in the right direction for the shower to drain properly we won't bother with the ramps (we've found the fridges on more modern motorhomes are far more tolerant to not being level when running on gas).
We use the yellow Fiamma ramps - - I did buy a pair of the Milenco ones a few years ago but they were just too big and bulky to fit well in our under-bed storage so they were never used (I did buy them used so did not lose any money!) In terms of levelling, I did download a bubble spirit level onto my tablet but in all honesty I just use a tin of tomatoes laid on the table, if it doesn`t roll we are level enough.

I've just re-read my post and I've realised I missed some vital words out it should say...
