Friends recently bought a second hand PVC from a big main dealer. They were told that the van would need to be serviced and that they would fit a new cam belt. This was three weeks ago and despite promises of calls back none have been forthcoming.
We're on our 4th second hand van and have never had to wait more than 10 days, and that was due to having some extra parts fitted, so I think this is unacceptable. Am I being unfair
I was going to suggest to them that they complain in writing and give the dealer a deadline but maybe we've always been lucky. Any advice form those who have had similar problems.
a cam belt and service can be done in a day! tell them to say to the dealer that unless its with them by wednesday of next week that the sale will be cancelled
Our fourth van, sure we never waited more than a week on first three
Current one we bought secondhand from SMC, they told us from the off it would be 4-6 weeks before we could collect following a full hab check, service and mot.
First reason was so many going out they had a backlog When we pushed for earlier they held firm and said the other reason was they would rather everything done right instead of problems meaning bringing it back - which seemed fair enough.
In the end we got it just over 3 weeks.
With staff off self isolating etc I think most things take longer nowadays.
Another thing to take into account is the fact that the DVLA have been working to rule and registering a vehicle with a new owner can take up to three weeks.
Additionally, parts seem to be difficult to obtain, if they've found a part needs to replace they may have issues getting hold of it, there are still a lot of supply chain issues so maybe they're waiting on a spare?
One thing the dealer is guilty of is poor communication which is in itself worrying, or maybe we've been lucky with our dealer with which we've always had very good comms.

Just a simple timely explanation of that would have gone a long way in customer relations.
Easy to do and easy to forget when you're under pressure but a simple explanation and regular comms often saves a lot more hassle in the long run and importantly, goes a long way to ensure the customer is happy.
