There have been plenty of other threads about this. You buy the book of one night stops in February or so. You need to stay about 4 times to cover the cost of the book.
We tried it twice, about 10 years apart. It did not suit us because we never found a suitable stop (that allowed a dog & also had a toilet) in the right place and at the right time.
However, friends who don’t have these two restrictions use it regularly for overnights en route & buy it every year.
There are apps that list free overnight parking. But I’d suggest you buy it next year & try it. If you don’t use it enough, don’t buy it the following year.

I have used Britsops a good few times. Usually pub car park to sleep over. I have always bought a meal as i don't like the idea of free riding. So I get a nice meal and a couple of drinks with a safe nighttime stopover. And I have stayed in some fantastic and unique places. They are nothing like French Aires which are usually a few euros a night or free. They are private individuals allowing you to park on their property overnight. But, in my opinion they are a great alternative to camp sites and feel safer than wild camping as you are staying with the land owners permission.

Why am i doing this instead of camping??!!

I bought it for 3 years when it first came out but realised that all the places it lists are also listed in many other places on the internet. I also had a couple of places where I was told they accepted Britstoppers but considered them to be freeloaders as most wouldn't even buy a drink in the pub. Didn't want to be associated with that so stopped buying it.

A minor point - Britstops isn’t just pubs & restaurants. Farm shops mostly, up my way, out in the countryside.

Great if you prefer a physical book with all the details of the location, facilities etc. There's also an app that requires the code from the book (£39 + postage).

We often spend the first night after a long trip at a Britstop pub rather than a campsite so we can unwind, have a meal without getting the pots ,& pans out & have a drink (or three), fall out of the pub and straight into bed...... lovely.
We've also stayed in some fantastic places we'd never have found otherwise.

The next morning we head to our nearby campsite, set up and have the first day to explore refreshed.

There are a couple of videos on YouTube showing the positives & negatives of Britstops but it suits us and we don't have any social media (or anti-social, depending on your viewpoint) accounts so can't see those listings. We prefer the physical book.
As some have mentioned, there are many more sites than just pubs so it all depends on what you want.

I'd suggest that if 39 quid is going to bankrupt you, forget it, otherwise give it a try for one year & if you don't feel its good value don't renew. We never sign up for any auto-renew purchases for that reason.

Happy touring

“Buy & try” is sound advice. £39 is less than one night at a CAMC club site that we went to in September this year.
Last time I had it, there weren’t many stops in areas we enjoy going to, but that might have changed since the Covid staycations, more UK Council Aires etc. Might try it again next year.

Absolutely!

if you're on a journey & just need an overnight stop not only are many sites silly prices since Covid, but you get to spend your money on a meal instead. Win, win for us.

How many of these sites provide an electric hook-up, as I need it for medical equipment?
