Does anyone know if the
Domestic Club AIR Pro DA 2.6m Inflatable Drive-Away Awning would fit Swift Carrera 144?
I like the look of this awning and the fact you can add on extra bedroom which we will need. But need to know it will fit or if there's anything similar to this awning that would fit.
We're new to this and just bought our first campervan after many years of camping in tents.
Hi, you will need to measure the height of the awning fixed onto your van first. Most driveway awnings come as either low, mid or hi for VW type vans upto motorhomes. This one says multi height so one would assume it will fit a variety of heights but if you go to its max height not sure how the connecting tunnel will sit against the van/ground and you may well end up with a draughty gap at ground level.
You would also need bear in mind weight of it plus weight of any annexe as its a heavy beast with regards to payload in a PVC.
Can you go see one in the flesh on display somewhere to do some measuring?
Thanks for your reply, we've not got our van yet due to be delivered in a couple of weeks.
The awning I'm looking at on ebay seems a good deal but don't want to buy it and it doesn't fit.
Probably best waiting till then so I can measure the height of the awning on the van, unless anyone on this forum has a Swift Carrera 144 (2023) that could let me know measurements.
Thanks again
No need to rush, you need to be clear what your awning is going to be used for - try a few trips first & if you’re not sure, ask whether you need it at all. It will take up weight & space / volume that you need to justify losing, as both are precious commodities in a MH or PVC. And it’ll take up time to put up & take down that you might prefer to spend walking the dog or drinking a beer or whatever.
Thanks for your reply, I need extra room as we're a family of 4 and a dog also needs a bedroom space for my 2 teenage boys I know they may do their own thing in a few years time but would like to have the space while they're with us. My mum & dad has an awning for their van but it's not a drive away one, it's nice to chill in when there's 6 or more together.
Everything you said makes sense and when we can leave the boys behind, the van will be enough space for me, my husband and our dog : )
Thanks again
I'd double check the dimensions on the annex, I've got one (not sure it's exactly the same model as a few years old, and on a caravan awning) but mine's NOT big enough to be an adult sized bedroom, despite having an inner bedroom liner!
As mentioned, check your payload capacity, these awnings are heavy! - combined weight of awning and annex around 43Kg! AND they are bulky, taking a fair bit of stowage space.
