Hi,
After a long absence from this forum , I do have a question I'm hoping someone can help me with.
I am planning on buying an ex motability Renault Master swb window van to convert in to my campervan .I would like to fit a large roof light/window but I'm trying to find one more like you'd see in a coach where it's lifted from each side rather than the one in my ABI Marauder caravan that winds up at the back .
I did find a photo of one fitted to the same van but can't find out who made and fitted it. I'll try to attach it to this post.
Does anyone know of any suppliers and fitters who could do this for me .
I suspect you may live to regret fitting the exact one shown in your photo if you could find it.
1) No sun blind! - you'll get the full 'sun-up' illumination to disturb your lie in past sunrise!
It's amazing how much heat can build up in the van from sunlight streaming through a skylight!
And, even if double glazed, the sun blind makes a difference to how much heat leaches out if you've got heating on in the van!
2) No fly screen! - Firstly they stop the bugs, and there WILL be bugs, getting in, but they also stop leaves and other debris that collect on the roof from blowing in and landing in places you don't want them - kitchen/food, bed etc.!
I've got the standard 'hinged at one end, open at other end' Heiki type skylights in my caravan, with 3 opening positions, they provide perfectly good ventilation, so not sure why you want the type in the photo.
The one I put a link to, has both sun blind and fly screen.
I had a similar one in my Bailey Pursuit in the shower cubicle. Could leave it open all the time and no rain came in. It kept the van lovely and cool by letting the heat out.
Needed a flyscreen though which unclipped and swung down to access the handles.
Have a look at Leisureshopdirect.
We changed all our previous MH “lids” because the plastic was cracked, leaking, not letting light in. The units might be smaller than you want, I haven’t checked recently, but have fly screens & blinds (both essential) integrated into the cassette.
We used the silicone tape for fitting, rather than a gun, because it gave a much neater finish, mitred at the corners.
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to reply.
My reasoning is that I am 5'8.5 " . The roof height of an H1 Renault master is the same between roof struts without any insulation .Obviously with insulation it will be less.
I thought if I could put a large roof light like this in the middle of my van, I'd at least be able to stand up under it even when it's closed, meaning I could cook etc under this space. Yes I would like tinted glass and fit a fly screen round the edges so I could still stand. Mark.
