I would suggest that from London going out to South Wales is about the best bet.
Start at Tenby and work your way West to St Davids. We have stayed at Nolton Cross near Haverfordwest and it's a good little site with it's own fishing pond, a working farm and the jewel in the crown has to be a trip two miles down the road to Nolton Haven. Pembrokeshire is quite like Cornwall with it's coast and cliffs. All in all a lovely neck of the woods.
Whatever you do don't forget to park up for as long as you can and just enjoy what's around you. That way you can leave plenty for the next trip!

I am originally from Putney in London now living in south Wales, driving fom London the best bet is the M4 motorway straight road all the way ,you could try the CC site at Pembrey , or the CC site at freshwater east or the CC site at St Davids all these sites are a few minits from the beach , just a few to give you a taste
west wales is stunning and we get there every moment that we can,Tenby is fab little town with 2 stunning beaches, nice shops, lovely harbour, best site i can recomend is windmills its only a 10/15 minute stroll into tenby, within 10 miles you have Oakwood theme park and Folly Farm, absolute heaven for your boys,Newgale has one of the best surfing in the area and a beautiful beach, car parks big enough to park your van and your right on the beach, campsite right opposite the beach,no electric hookups but nice toilets/showers and cheap. You have to stop in Solva on the way up to St Davids, beautiful harbour,if your going to St Davids Caerfai bay is your site, superb views, lovely and quiet ,10 minute walk into St Davids and its on the coastal path so you could have a beautiful walk to Solva and catch the bus back, that would keep you busy for a week or 10 days.If you need any more info dont be afraid to ask..Dave
if any one is booked into shell isleland at llanbedder then there is a rule that you can't sleep in the motorhome only sleeping in tents allowed, motorhomes are allowed on but not to sleep in.

Yes, they do have such a rule, but I wonder if anyone has experienced its enforcement?
I did once hear of a (tentless) motorhomer returning to "his" pitch to find it occupied by a tent and his home-made "Reserved For..." sign thrown aside!
yes they do enforce it also i had a small scooter i carried on the rear and they wouldnt let us use it either had to be on back of the motorhome or if we went out park it near the gate, it was no probs as when they told us we were ready to move. also some of the campers are to lazy to go to the toilet block and just use the sanddunes which are covered in tissue paper, i would avoid the isle and go to past llanbeder and to llanfair slate mines where there is a camp site and they have a little pets area for the kids. but if going to shell then watch out for the tide as it covers the road so time it wrong and its 6hrs waiting.

Last year we took our motorhome and booked overnight at Shell Island. We were told to just go and find a place.
We parked right next to the small cliffs overlooking the beach and sea with no problem. We watched the sun go down and had a good stay (1 night) in the motorhome.
The only problem we had was that the water supply to the taps around the site kept running out!!
Not an ideal campsite to stay, but an excellent stopover.
We stopped overnight at a very nice campsite next to Lake Bala too.
In response to the no sleeping in a motorhome at shell island!! i have booked to go at easter and made it very clear we would be in a camper van and no mention was made of this rule?
There is a great campsite in Cardiff = Cardiff caravan park Poncanna Fields Sophia close CF11 9LK -Tel:02920-398362. We go there every year without fail.
