Camper vans are such a personal thing as each layout suits different people's requirements. At sub £10k I'd suggest buying yourself a LWB van of mini bus, buying a donor caravan and fitting it out yourself as a winter project.
We're now on our second self-conversion, which means that you can design your own layout that meets your requirements, also a darnsight cheaper than buying a manufactured van. For some good ideas try the Self Build Motor Caravanners website.
By the way, our first conversion was an LDV minibus that cost around £2.5k in total, we ran it for 2 and a half years doing around 18,000 trouble free miles, we sold it for almost what it cost to build, having had some grat holidays in it. We have now converted an Iveco van as we decided we needed a shower and toilet, which the LDV wasn't big enough for and it's cost us around £5k, so a good conversion will suit your budget requirements.
you'l get a lot newer motor and a lot more for your money buying a conversion or doing one yourself , i found this out for myself as i used to have a knauss m/h followed by an old hymer 544 , lovely motorhomes , but unfortunately , all old running gear , and that became an issue when every time we went away something went wrong or broke down completely . if you look on ebay etc at the racetruck conversions it'l give you a better idea of the sort of stuff about , and looking at delboys conversion for what he's selling it at , will be a good reference , when you put it up against coachbuilt , in particular if you thought about something of that size used in conjuction with an awning ,, and as tentz pointed out , the lez regs will kill off any chance of getting a compliant coachbuilt for the money that you are thinking of paying ,, happy hunting ,,
ive a LDV Convoy conversion of a minibus with everything except hot water/shower in it, inc night heater, 12v compressor fridge, etc.
the layouts not ideal and youd struggle to make it a 4 berth in any sense of the word, but its not flimsy and it was cheap (ish)
if i was to convert one id look for one of the 2 axle wide body NHS "PTS" buses, they are long and wide enough and could take a fixed bed one end and bunk beds
the tri axle ducatos are cool but a bit big - length wise - for town carparks should you wish to vists places
im just creating a 2nd kitchen area at the rear for use on EHU sites (well, you pay for the leccy!) meaning the tv can be semi-fixed above the gas cooker
