Caravan Club Certificated Locations (for up to five caravans/motorhomes) or Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Sites (same but usually take tents in addition).

Both only need provide basic facilities like fresh water, chemical toilet disposal and refuse disposal (they may provide more, like toilets and showers for instance), and on acceptance by the relevant club are issued with a certificate allowing them to take members' units (but note above posts on this subject).

Well good for you !! So by avoiding the membership fee's but still using a club CL's & CS's you potentially denying a paid up member a pitch .

We are members of both clubs & use mostly cl / cs sites, what's the point of paying £80 per year if the same sites are available without being members. I recently contacted camping & caravan club saying what cs site we had stayed at without being asked for membership details , plus I knew other people staying we're not members. The site in question also states on their website that being a member is not compulsory to stay. Surely in this economic climate the policy should be enforced .

Are people SURE that some of these C&CC sites("CSs" or otherwise) that they've stayed at,haven't just been C&CC "listed"  or "affiliated" sites?..

We weren't members for long,so not that "clued up" on the C&CC but I wonder if this is where some confusion is arising?...

I know we've stayed on many "non-club" sites which have had "C&CC" signage...but they offered no "members discount" and you certainly didn't need to be members to use them..

Having said that, there's little doubt that some CS & CL operators will gladly welcome non-members money.....It still doesn't make it right...

(..and I dare say that the tenner goes straight in their back pocket..).

A couple of CLs that we used to use, have since been dropped from the CC "network" and we were told it was because they had been allowing "non-members" and one even had a couple of vans pitched up,with folk living "semi-permanent" in them..

Both clubs will tell you that you will 'save money' by joining, but what they wont tell you is their prices for members is 99% of the time the same or higher than non-club sites, often with the same or better facilities.

Im in the CC&C, and also only use the CS's - and ive never been asked if im a member either.

If you do use the five-vanners, (CL/CS's) its worth asking if they also take tents (some do if theres room). It may be controversial to say it, but unless these tents only contain an odd lone hiker/cyclist, theres a fair chance there will be 'noise' of some sort emanating from them. For no other reason that folk in tents tend to forget how non-soundproofed a few microns of nylon is. Which defeats the object of choosing a 'five vanner' for a bit of peace and quiet.

And, this is said by someone who used to be in a tent,so knows how sound travels.

We are members of the C&CC just so we can use the rally sites. We find these fantastic value and they are usually in better spots than most campsites.

Personally find the official C&CC campsites very expensive and not good value.

I've been a member of C & C C for years, I love the Club sites and use them quite a bit. I also use CSs.

I've recently joined CC as well and have used 2 CL sites in a matter of weeks. Not tried a club site yet as couldn't get a pitch on the one I wanted.

Re CSs & CLs - Some ask for membership number, some don't. Some blatantly break the rules but also there are quite a few who are also a small licensed site in their own right as well as being a CS/CL, they add that to give them more scope and acvertising. I have been to one a few times which is actually a CL and a CS (registered under slightly different names)

Personally, I wouldn't feel it was right to make use of a Club facility such as a CL or CS unless I was a member - which is why I joined the CC recently. I was intending to camp with friends on a CL, so I joined. (No they didn't ask for my newly acquired membership number when I booked, so some might say I didn't need to join - but I would have felt guilty all weekend.)

We spent a lot of time pondering this since getting our MH and decided to join the c & cc because it seemed a lot more child friendly.....we're probably on the avoid list for Mike S even though we're not in a tent
