To be honest I would advise anyone thinking of buying a T5/6 who has small children to most definitely avoid the California and buy one converted by one of the numerous GB converters, you will probably save money but more importantly the California has the rear door on the Off side meaning your children need to exit on to the road, as most people who buy these small vans plan on using them in place of a car, for me the risk is just to high ?
I respectfully disagree.
Cost-wise there is very little between the top-end conversions (Bilbos, Jerba, etc) once you've negotiated a discount with your dealer, plus its a factory fitted camper, rather than after-market which can cause issues e.g. with warranties if looking at a new vehicle.
You can also work around the sliding door being on the off-side easily if you take time to consider where is best to park/drop-off on school runs etc.
Of course you will get the same experience in a conversion or a Cali. For us, after seeing one, and spending months looking at many of the alternatives, it was a no brainer.
I bought mine from a Van hire company but got it checked out before doung the deal. A lingle door tailgate, electrics pack, over 100bhp motor and not white where the only criteria.
I've been around a couple of places in the Lancs area and am on the verge of ordering a T6 Camper...warranties vary considerably as do the finished look of the van...some still look very much like a white van from the outside, some look much more like a camper regardless of the colour.
