Interesting topic. One of these is a potential future contender once the kids are a little older but until this post I'd never have considered Tax class, speed limits etc. hence my interest.

Having had a good search again, the only N1 I can find tonight is FJ18OJJ which is a 2.0 TDI 4motion Ocean with diff lock.

The revenue weight on this is 3200kg vs 3000kg or 3080kg for the M1 class. It does looks somewhat customised with talk of CNC machining etc so this may have been a factory custom or similar.

The brochure for the Ocean and Beach are 3000/3080kg only with kerb weight 2380-2669 so expect the standard vehicles are all M1.

411Kg payload on the 4motion isn't a lot once you subtract a modest 320kg for 4 adults!

Aye, tax is certainly something to consider buying new. With my older van (not a VW btw) it's a known quantity.   I believe MPV body type gives the California car speed limits despite weight.   Dual Purpose is a separate thing & I'm not certain it's actually a body type on the V5.

Re payload I'm lucky to have around 1100kg but I'm going to get it weighed as I'm curious what the weight of the conversion has used up.
