Glad to hear you have finally found one. The nice part now is buying all the bits n bobs to go in it. Like you I am divorced with a son and we love going away most weekends. Only just been on a meet for the first time at Cartref, but I am assured by everyone there that we would be welcome at all the meets. Why dont you book for the Much wenlock meet that Bordercaz is organising, we would love to see you and I am sure everyone would feel the same. I must admit I was apprehensive at first what with being alone but nothing to worry about - you can only try!!
Wowee - you have finally done it! Welcome to the club and the exciting world of motorhoming. I am sure this will be the beginning of a new and exciting time in your life and once you have familiarised yourself with all the gubbings and taken her on a few outings I am sure you will have the extra confidence to do a few days away in her. Once you have, I am sure you will not regret it and I am sure you will be tempted then to venture further and further away for longer and longer periods. It would be such a pity to own your new baby and then not use her to her full advantage. Come along to one of the meets Welshlady and that way you can benefit from the security of being in a group and also make some news friends and get some useful tips and advice.
Anyway, congratulations on your new arrival, I am so thrilled for you.

SONESTA'S MOTTO IN LIFE ..... LAUGH AND THE WORLD LAUGHS WITH YOU. CRY AND YOU CRY ALONE!
I'm sure you will keep discovering new things about your motorhome for quite a while to come, and that is all part of the fun. The only down-side (if you can call it that) is realising that you never seem to stop buying more things to put inside, but then even that is fun. It's funny how you can get all excited about levelling ramps and invertors!!
Once you've been out in it a few times you'll soon become an addict.... we all do.
Don't worry too much about all the little switches and things, they soon become second nature... you'll soon be flicking, switching, plugging and connecting like a pro...lol
Anyway, just get out there and get stuck in. Life is a learning curve and when it comes to motorhomes, learning is a lot of fun.
All the best
Phil

I thought I was the only sad one! I too get excited about silly things that I have bought for our motorhome. Even a new bucket is enough to send me into a frenzy of hysteria ha ha! Wonder if it is just us two or are others as equally as daft?

hi all, oh no no. i am the queen of nik nax and bric a brac. i have put my sofa style tissue box cover in there, a new carpet runner for up the middle, a bowl and draining rack. i've washed all the upholstery, polished the dash etc. hey but what about the two batteries? how often should i start her up to make sure everything is charged?
I am no expert on the electrics Welshlady, I leave all that kind of stuff to my husband. But I have just asked him and he says to tell you there is no need to keep starting her up. You can just leave her on hook up if you have her parked at home or just charge her up once a month or so. It all depends how much you will be using her. If you drive her daily then there is no need to even put her on hook up. By the way, you will need an adaptor if you haven't already got one, this is so that you can plug your hook up lead into a 3 pin domestic 13 amp socket. Hope this helps but I am sure others with more knowledge will advise you if there is anything else you need to know or if I have advised you incorrectly.
Glad you are enjoying faffing about with her - I know I was dead excited when I first got ours and I was like a little kid playing house lol. Me and hubby even sat in her one night on our drive when we first got her and sat and had our tea along with a bottle of wine! Now how's that for silliness? I don't care if we are sad - we are having so much fun with ours, and if anyone thinks we are flipping crackers I really don't care - cos we just love our Winnie!
Have fun.

Perhaps we should start a new thread entitled "silliest thing you got excited about"
My better half shook her head in amazement when I was grinning like a cheshire cat because I had just purchased an "Ace new funnel, look, it's got a really big bowl with a lip to stop water sloshing out everywhere, and a long flexible spout"!
How sad am I? Answers on a postcard please...lol

Not sad in my opinion - just really passionate about your motor home. But then again you know what they say about little things pleasing little minds -so guess we must have little brains then Phil. Doesn't take a lot to please us though does it?

am new to this site and noticed that you live near me. I am not a campervan owner but am considering it. currently have a folding camper which has been great while my son has been coming with me. he has just turned 18 and no longer wants to camp with mum. I am hoping to continue camping but am not sure if I will be able to manage folding camper on my own.also have 2 dogs .
if you read back you will see i have not had my MH long and i haven't been away in her yet.
are you near me or near the coast. i know the Prestatyn are a quite well.
i am considering just taking her out for a day before i take the plunge. can't take the dogs yet as they're not trained. so it is limiting.
keep in touch now

Hello Pat, and welcome to UKCS - where you will now spend many hours!!
I know what you mean about erecting a folding camper - I have a Dandy and found it hard enough WITH my 14 year old son to erect, I know other people find them easy to put up, but I don't! find it really heavy. Anyway I have kept my little campervan and must say I love it. My son will probably not want to come with me for very much longer, he's 14, so I'll probably be leaving him with his older brother and my husband, who won't camp - although to be fair he does work at week-ends.
As it is I go to the meets with my son and we have a great time, there are quite a few of us who do it without partners for one reason or another.
I don't find it too much of a hassle to go off site with the van, I have a utility tent which I leave stuff in like chairs, table etc. so it's just a matter of unhooking the EHU and remembering to turn off the gas. As Bambi is small I can usually park in ordinary car parks, unless they have a low height barrier.
Hope to see you at a meet sometime, in the meantime keep an eye on ebay for campervan bargains, not necessarily recommending that you buy one off ebay but you can get a good idea of the layouts etc. from the pics peeps put up.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
