This might be a stupid suggestion from someone who`s never owned a Thetford, but why not leave out the pink chemical from the flush water if you know you`ll be travelling? Then if you get a bit of leakage from the flush tank it will only be plain water. Or is it necessary for the chemical reaction in the collection tank?
In our last 'van, a compass avantguard 200, we had a top tank but we gave up putting chemicals into it as we started to get staining in the toilet bowl, the van we have now uses the on board fresh water tank so no real difference there. We do empty the waste as often as poss, as we do a lot of wild camping it is better for us to take any opportunity so every day if poss or it might have to wait a couple of days.
I thought that the waste tank had a pressure release valve.
When you open the vale there are two rules.
1. Do is quite slowly as this allows pressure build up to be released more slowly
2. Keep the top lid down. Though this will not contain all the exploding mess it will cut down the amount that escapes.
Vast changes in pressure will make your toilert explode, basic laws of physics, so if you do go into the mountains make sure to open the loo regularly so that it can equalise. Saying that I went up to Nordkapp un-aware of this issue until someone told me about it, without any problmes at all. There again with having kids they are constantly going to the toilet so they do have their uses after all.
Do not have the problem with the toliet flush, as its fed from the main water tank. But I would be rather annoyed if I could not use the toliet whilst travelling around

The only trouble I have had occurred some years ago high in the French Alps. We had stopped for a loo break and the waste tank "exploded" on opening the vane covering all and sundry in a nasty mess!
Holy s***!!!
