Generators, very noisey, and antisocial, event he quite ones. I agree with the other comments regarding this.
Inverter is the way to go, you can take this one stage further by using a solar panel so if you are on site for a long time you do not have to worry about re-charging. Saying that 2 120A leisure batteries will last several days without any problem if only using low consumption.
I have 120W solar panel fitted, 2 off 120A leisure batteries, and 1800W inverter - more than adequate to run the toaster and wifes hair drier. Also saves all the hassle of having to hook up when on site
as i said before go for the inverter for the cheaper option and its site freindly i do think though next year i will buy a bigger bank of batteries ie x4
i was looking into the weight issue the other day and this what i found obviously you don't know if all these batteries were bought and used together ie( if one will goose the other) but it shows there are altenatives when size and weight are issues
One other issue with batteries is that they should all be the same type, and preferably the same age, when I got my 2nd leisure battery several people said the samething (fortunatly was able to sell my other leiseure battery to my neighbour)

Thanks to everyone who has replied to my generator question. But we are going walking in scotland this xmas so open campsites are few and far between, plus we enjoy the remote parking so the charging of batteries to power inverters and daylight to power solar panels must surely be an issue.I agree noisy generators would be as popular on site as Gordon Browns news that he intends to put up fuel yet again,,but thats another story but in our case I think a genny is the only option.See you all soon
We recieved the generator on Thursday and we gave it a test, it was about 2 metres away from the motorhome and we could hardly hear it and the noise we heard wasn't enough to drown out the T.V! Even with the T.V off we could hardly hear it, the generator is the Honda EU10i. Off to Scotland with it tomorrow can't wait (1st time wildcamping as well)
If you were parked next to our unit running your generator we would find it annoying and ask you to switch it off. If I saw it on arrival I would ask the site owner if he was aware of the annoyance they cause.
We have only experienced one that was sited 3 caravans away and it was a bind. Not only was the generator noisy but the family using it were also loud and inconsiderate.
When asked to reduce the noise at 10pm, they became agressive when I then called the site owner who instructed them to switch it off then and leave the following morning.
We've, or rather I, have often considered a genny, but always rejected the idea on the grounds of, weight, noise, smell, carrying fuel, anti-social, & security. The habitation battery in the Motorhome is a 120amph. When away, we are very selective with the TV usage at night. Prefering radio, cards, se? er! that, lol. Besides when we shoot off for the day, the battery gets powered back up. We were once annoyed to find on a CL that a genny was being used a heluva lot. Even though it was a fair distance off, it was an irritation, like them as seem to think that everyone wants to hear their telly or radio! But we soon realised that the genny was an essential accessory for the lady of the outfit, who needed it for medical reasons. Suddenly we couldn't hear it anymore????
You should find if you have 2 120amph leisure batteries, that would last you for a reasonably good time, adequate for a long week end, even watching plenty of telly and DVD's.
We've just returned today from scotland, we wild camped 3 times and stayed on a site once and we never heard the generator. We are not planning on using it on a site when there is an electric hook up. We're always greatful for comments from members but i think that you miss the point we only use the generator when wild camping away from houses and other campers. We travelled over 1,000 miles with the generator in the MH and the only smell was from my feet after i stood in dead fish and had to throw the carpet in the cab away.
