I have for many years wild camped mainly in Scotland but I find most of the wild camping forums hopelessly out of date or encouraging people to ignore "No Camping" signs.

My concern is if we publish wild camping locations they are unlikely to remain the sorts of places I would wish to camp. I can think of places which now attract a stream of campers probably more than 10 a night in season which you would have had to yourself only 3 years ago and the main reason is folks posting them on forums.

In the Hebrides you could wild camp just a couple of years ago virtually anywhere and expect a warm welcome from the locals but now because of the internet making locations known to people grazing committees are banning wild camping or imposing charges often as much as campsite but with no facilities. Just look at the conflict wild camping has caused on the island of Berneray at north beach .

We all enjoy wild camping but lets keep it to ourselves before we ruin it.

All you are doing is delaying the inevitable. If YOU found a nice camping spot then its obvious that someone else will find it. The more people that Wild camp the more the Government will eventually have to start making provision for us, as in France.

You can bury your head in the sand for a time but not for ever.

So seeing your stand on the matter are you going to contact the other Wild camping websites and ask them to close down because YOU cant find anywhere to stop overnight.

If you post a list of wild camping locations people will use it to find holiday sites much as we use the review section of this site. These will become overcrowded as folks who would have never considered wild camping use them and landowner will soon stop any camping spoiling it for everyone.. Locations of these wild camping sites are better passed on by word of mouth.
As a new land owner on the Hebrides I am quite prepared to allow wild camping on my feu but if this was to become a "campsite" I would soon withdrawn the privilege.
