hello, new member here, we have recently bought an american motorhome from Ebay, green as grass!!! having now completely refitted the inside due to extensive damp we are almost ready, except keep buying STUFF like reversing camera, airhorns! i know that sounds dreadful, but it never seems to stop we are now contemplating between a freestanding awning, or fiamma/omnistor and safari room, does anyone have any tips on this?, we didnt even have a whistling kettle till this week, anyhow enjoyed reading all the conversations.....take care out there, minnie winniex
Personally I would get a free standing awning so that it reserves your pitch and can contain stuff like chairs, table etc to save you packing it all away when you leave the site.
However, I suspect that with a large motorhome it probably isn't practical to keep whizzing off site; you are more likely to set up & stay awhile, in which case a wind out awning & safari room would be worthwhile erecting.
I've got a wind out awning & put a windbreak around it - not totally weather resistant, but I know I would not be able to reach to put up a safari room. They are quite a fiddle apparently. Also easy & quick to pack away windbreak & roll in the awning.
It really depends on how you want to camp, long stays on site or a lot of touring about.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
thanks for the reply Caz, think we have decided on the freestanding Harrison awning, as have been told you lose your pitch, the winnie is 24ft so not a really big one, there is a lovely sight in Barnsley South Yorkshire called Greensprings, although it is pretty basic ....lovely clean toilets/showers the setting is superb and lovely walks/bike rides/ pubs nearby. It is quite hidden nearest village being Birdwell Barnsley.
