I'm suprised there are no articles in here on electric bikes. I would have thought the motorhome/caravan world would be flooded with them - very handy for that grocery store a mile down the road! Anyway, what I'm asking is this: I weigh 14stone. Is there a good strong electric bike on the market that someone out there could recommend for a bloke of my weight to do a round trip of, say, 5 miles without too much strenuous pedaling - I'm 53 years old and not as fit as I once was. To be carried in my campervan of course.
hey whats that vicci on about, any way a mate of mine had a couple for him and his wife said they where great, i,m 65 still ride a mountain bike , best regards bob
Me and hubby both have electric bikes and I am a very heavy lady so if it can take my weight it will certainly take yours!
We both have the powabykes a ladies shopper for me and the commuter bike for hubby and we fit them to a bike rack on the back of our motorhome. They are great fun and ours do approx 15 miles on a full charge. You can assist the motor when you go up a steep hill by pedalling or you can just use pedal power alone if you run out of battery power but as yet, we have never run out of power and have been all over on them. They are not cheap but they are well made and we have been pleased with ours. Here is a link to their website but if I were you I would look on eBay to see if anyone is selling any secondhand cos you might grab yourself a real bargain. Be very careful which model you buy though cos if you go for some of these cheap models that are on the market they can be very poor quality and a total waste of money! We bought one such bike originally and it was crap to put it frankly but thankfully the bike shop we bought it from took it back and allowed us to exchange it for the powabyke! http://www.powabyke.com/
Hope this helps and please do not hesitate to ask me any more questions if you want to know a bit more and I will do my best to help you.

i have also been interested in a electric bike since i seen a fold up at the nec in february i wanted to buy it there and then, i always take my bike with me and i wanted one of thes for my other half hes a fit 70 year old and was impressed with the electic fold up
he doesnt like the idea of peddaling up hill. and this would be ideal.
we went to holland in the spring and there are bikes every where and people of all ages on them . all looking very slim and very fit.
it has to be more fun than stuck in a traffic queue.
I bought 2 electric bikes from www.asbikes.co.uk last week and have used mine most days since then.We saw them at the Newark and Peterborough shows. My wife has never been on a bike in the 34 years I've known her but we did a 10 mile ride last week. Mine are the 20" wheel folding variety. I'm over 18 st and it pulls me along except on steep gradients when you have to pedal but it "helps you". and of course when at the top it gives you a rest by taking over for a while lol. They don't seem to have ours on their website for some reason, but they are a good £200 cheaper than most competitors i've seen at £450 including a carrybag and delivery!.They fold up in seconds. I put mine in the car boot and my wife take me to work and I occasionally use the pedals on the way home lol.

Thank all of you who replied to my question. It seems i had the wrong impression of electric bikes as I believed most of them wouldn't be capable of pulling the skin off a rice pudding - suitable for lightweight people only. I can now have more confidence in going for a Powabike or similar in the near future.
