hi new to motor homes this year. our water and waste tanks are outside motorhome . any advice on protecting them from freezing to use our motorhome year round. please help a lost cause mad welshlady and her husband who relies on her to get the details and just drives the thing. just had a month in scotland and enjoyed every minute of it. oh its wonderful being newly retired
If its got outside tanks it aint really a 4 season motorhome-fully winterised ones have a double floor---shouldnt be a problem tho if you go to Spain for winter-it rarely freezes at night on the coast--but it does inland--if its gonna be freezing keep the waste water drain plug open--as for fresh water--in France & Spain you wouldnt want to be drinking the water you fill your fresh water tank with anyway- but bottled water is very cheap in those countries so you wont have much of a problem--
as billy says your tanks will probably freeze in an unwinterised van....leave your waste outlet open and put a bucket under it....emptying before it overflows....as for the fresh water there is not much you can do about that....even if your tank is ok the pipework is outside too and its that that freezes....it does take pretty drastic overnight temperatures to do so though and it quite often defrosts during the day....turn the taps on for a few minutes before bed just to flush it through and keep the water moving.....where were you planning on going?
