I have seen on other forums warnings about current scams which made me even more aware than usual when advertising my old campervan on ukcampsite for sale board. Soon after making the posting I received an email from someone with a hotmail account calling themselves Mark - although the email acount is in the name of Frank. At first they seemed like a genuine buyer asking for photos etc to be sent to them. Today I received an email from them saying they would be sending me a cheque (spelt check) for the full amount plus £2000 which they want me to forward to assist them in the purchase of an oil drill as they are stuck in Libya with their oil business! (I have not given them my home address) Similar stories have been posted on other sites about false bank accounts etc being used to pull such scams. So far I have only seen stories about high priced motorhomes being targetted so thought I was safe with my £950 bargain but clearly not so be warned.
It may come as no surprise I will not be pursuing this sale!
We advertised a silver screen on this website at £35 and got a similar email from Nigeria, with the offer of them sending more than the £35 (didn't stipulate how much) and then we could send him the difference. Oh yes, we jumped at the offer ....NOT!
