Hi you camper owners...could i please just ask your advice.....have you ever experienced this problem...and if so...what did you do to rectify it....i drove 68 miles home on Sunday from middlesbrough...no problems put the camper on the drive ...and when i turned off the ignition..and was just getting out...i heard a hissing noise...went to the back of the bus...and noticed water dripping down the back from somewhere...opened the fill up flap and saw that the top up water bottle was full to the top ...ans i carefully unscrewed the cap and all the antifreeze water came pouring out...i must mention that at no time on my journey home did the coolant light come on...so could it be that the camper got too hot cos the fan didn't kick in or could it be a fuse or a blockage i wonder ?
thought i would ask on here first off...seeing as i am already logged on...
thanks a lot guys
i wait with baited breath

You tried your best
and failed MISERABLY.
The lesson is : NEVER TRY .
My Bedford Rascal was constantly overheating. It needed two different thermostats before (hopefully) it doesn't overheat. Won't know until I take it on a long run (done several short runs and its now ok), but the guys at the garage flushed out the heating sys as well as fitting a different thermostat. The prob I was having was definately overheating (went right into the red after around 80 miles and the overflow was full and no water in the radiator. Aslo the heater (which you'd normally switch on to cool down the engine when the termo is in the red or near it) was blowing cold. Seems it wasn't exchanging properly. Like they said, it *should* be ok now. So check you may need a sys flush and a new thermostat.
I know exactly what the problem is. Some fool put the engine in the boot.
Seriously though, I'd drain and flush the whole system, which should cure any blockages and alleviate any air locks that may be in the system. Remember, it's a long way from the radiator to the engine on these things.
I have had 2 T25, and never had a problem regarding overheating, although the fans, yes 2 of them one slow speed and one fast speed used to come on going over the alps, you don't let it tick over to cool down, there is no need. Thats why you have an expansion container for,its to suck in the excess boiling water, then when it cools it goes back to the refill reservoir,i suggest you check all the hoses first, they do tend to collapse inwardly ,water pump and thermostat. If you, must drain and refill, there is a drain plug right side of radiator bottom,if its a very late model, you may have to undo bottom hose to drain, doing that will not drain all of the coolant, you also have to undo a 13mm. plug found on the left side of engine looking from the back, and the best way to refill is to actually raise the back up as far as you possibly can ie, the top of the radiator is slightly below the filling container at the back, this way you avoid air locks. Hope this helps and sorry if i was a bit long in the tooth(by the way i use to work on this vehicles hence the tip up option of filling it)
Also I thought the T25's had two expansion tanks, one in the actual engine bay thats acts like a normal one and the one down by the filler flap behind the number plate.
Hi, it could be something more serious, (but I hope not), but the best bet is the thermostat sticking closed, as we've just been through a cold spell, VW's run quite cold and if the thermostat hasn't opened for a while this can happen, that said if you are getting warmth from the heater, it's probably not the thermo.
Other causes could be; faulty rad cap, blown head gasket, cracked head (have you got antifreeze in it?) or an air lock (not likely unless you've recently emptied and re-filled the system)
Cooling problems are always a pain, you just have to go through the cheapest options first and work your way up til you find the answer.
I asumme its a 1.9dg---if the cooling system is being pressurised & blowing coolant out of the topup tank--it could well be a blown head gasket, so terminal unless the engine is rebuildable(it may not be if head studs are rotten)--the way to tell is to get the coolant checked for exauhst fumes---best place for T25 tech advice is 80-90 or brick-yard--you aint far from Huddesfield which is where Brick-werks is---run by Simon-worlds best T25 mechanic--
