Hi,

I'm in the process of converting a transporter into a pop roof(reimo) camper.  I've been looking at the Khyam awnings which seem to be designed to fit onto the guttering of a van.  The new transporters do not have guttering, is there any way to fit them without fiiting a rail onto the van first.  I've considered throwing cord over the van onto other side and pegging it down, but i do not think that this will work with a pop roof.

Any ideas?

Oz

You could try putting velcro onto the van and awning. Lobey Dosser did this with his small caravan and awning and it is very effective, also keeps the draft out!

Nothing beats a rail to drop the pole of the awning into, also makes it easy to drive away and come back. Could you not fit some sort of rail that would then be concealed under the Pop up roof when down?

On previous vans I have had I have used fig 8 clip onto gutter with good success, the sucker type clamps were absolute rubbish, but the pole and clamp was by far the easiest and most secure.

Weve got a Justkampers Stand alone awning which we just butt up to the side of the van and find the side guy ropes are sufficient though we once put some long guy ropes over the top and fixed them down but find as its such a solid Awming it is fine on its own.

we have a autosleeper trooper, elevating roof based on a t4 SWB van. The roof design of the trooper makes it awkward to mount a awning.  What I did was fix U sectioned awning rail along the length of the van, bought it from a local caravan parts shop for £8 a length. Needed a length and a half.

The beaded edge of a sun awning or a driveaway tent awning slides perfectly into the awning rail without the need for figure of 8.  At the present we just use a cheapo sun canopy, but are looking into investing in a small movelite driveaway to give us extra living and storage space.

Hope this helps.
