After much searching i recently took the plunge and purchased a 1992 talbot express autohomes avalon ,having previously owned much older transit mark ones ,this is a quite a step up for me,the van seems great for its age a little bubbling on one of the wheel arches ,only to be expected,i agreed a price of 5500 and the owner has also put a new mot on it and i pick it up next week.my only niggling doubt is that the headlining after the overhead luton area is sagging ,the van smelt fresh no damp odours and we saw no visible signs of damp, should this ring alarm bells ,the guy selling it was very straight with us and said there was no problems regarding damp ,leaks ect. i have left a deposit and i am looking forward to hitting the open road anyone have any ideas, experience of the avalon ,or am i just being a bit too over cautious its a 400 mile round trip to north lincolnshire from south wales to pick it up so i would welcome any viewpoints
Hi, Tito,is the headlining glued to inside insulation on the cab roof, if so you need to just peel it off and refix it with some spray on adhesive, the type carpet fitters use, if there are no damp stains on it, then its just come unstuck, you will need to pull off the door trim to re-fix it properly, but are you bothered by it?
Cheers Art no there are no stains so it is probably as you said im not really bothered as long as it isnt caused by leaks after all it is sixteen years old will get some of that spray adhesive should do the trick.
It also has sagging roof lining but does not suffer from any damp problems.I think its caused by codensation when cooking etc. over a period of time.As a temporary measure and to tidy it up i put a couple of staples in it using a staple gun.It is not a problem.
Mine had done 54k when i bought it 16 months ago and has now done 63k.
Had a few problems but nothing a garage couldnt sort.
I had full history with it and it had been seviced annually.
The first thing i did was have an engine service only and was very pleased with the result.
