We are just about to embark on our first season in our first MH with our two dogs. The trouble is we can't decide if we should join the CC or C&CC. I would be grateful for your views of which club would suit best.
Also if you have any hints or tips on travelling with our four legged friends. Rosie and Daisy would like to know what your pups think are the must have's and must do's (and don'ts) when travelling and while on site.
All C&CC (Club) sites seem to welcome dogs and I cannot remember having seen any mess anywhere because camping dog owners seem a responsible crowd. We've been given a membership of the Caravan Club for Xmas so it will be interesting to make a comparison.
On both club sites the main things to remember are they must be on a lead at all times and that shouldn't be longer than 6 feet. There is usually a dedicated dog walk either on or close to the site (C&CC anyway) and obviously mess must be cleaned up.
We always have the dog bed in the car for travelling but depends on the size of the dog. You can get car harnesses to fasten to the seat belts if they are inclined to jump around
I can only give an opinion of the C&CC as we are not members of the CC but dogs are welcomed onto club sites under control of course.
never had a problem with cc club been a member years now .always found the wardens very helpful pointing you to the walks. just remember the dog rules and you will love it .as for motor homing with you dog its brill. we walk miles when a way ,
we are talking the dog away to France this year. in June for three weeks
------------- do it to day it might be too late tomorow
Thank you for the responses so far. We are really looking forward to taking the whole family away for weekends.
Thankfully Northumberland (aka The Secret Kingdom) is a dogs paradise. We have been out for long walk round a country lake and then wandered onto the beach this morning and watched a canoe competition - so nice on a bright, sunny but chilly walk to get back 'indoors' for a welcome coffee and a bacon sandwich to warm up.
Can't wait to try it out overnight so we can walk the legs off the dogs some more!!
Yellowcraig Caravan Club site near North Berwick is great for dogs and their human chums. Lovely beach, walk for miles, no dog bans etc. Good facilities on site and within easy reach of Northumberland.
We've enjoyed taking our very lively sprollie with both CC and C&CC. Most sites have dog walks on site so you don't have to worry about mess on your pitch.
I would highly recommend a water bowl with anti-spill lid regardless of the time of year. You can leave it the floor of the camper and be reassured that they always have access to a drink so you don't have to worry/keep stopping:

Might be worth putting it on a small piece of non-slip matting.
Also, take lots of old towels/blankets to cover seats/bed if you are going near mud/sand etc as there is nothing worse than having to get into bed after the dog has dried itself there!
My labrador has a reflective flashing collar so he can be seen on those late night walks back from the pub
I think you can buy hi-viz jackets for dogs too!
He has a dog suit for chilly nights(see here www.equafleece.com ) and I make sure he is wearing a collar with a disc with our mobile numbers on (not our address or home number because we are not there!) should he get lost (which is unlikely, but not impossible) .
We were members of both for about 6 years. We liked the C&CC the best but used CC for their Van Insurance and occasionally their club sites.
Eventually we went elsewhere for our insurance and stopped our CC Membership. We found that their Sites Guide was hard to understand, especially when we were planning a tour.
Personally I think you should give both a try for a couple of years and then choose the one that meets your own needs the best.
Love the idea of a dog fleece - we'll look into a made-to-measure one for our Basset. Just recieved lite weight hi-viz jackets today from zooplus.co.uk at £4 for Roise the JRT and £6 for Daisy Basset as I am sure local pubs will insist we visit!
Rushing out to get discs for the mobile number - exellent idea! We used to have a non-spill bowl but SOMEONE chewed it - need to replace. Already have shed loads of towel for soggy doggies in the van. Seems the furkid list is nearly as long as the human one!
I think we'll hold back on making any decisions over the CC or C&CC until we've tried a few but in the meantime *Lobey* - we have friends who live near Loch Giliphead - any recommendations on sites to go to nearby which we could book into for the June holiday??
Many thanks for all your input - it is much appreciated. So pleased we found this site!!
No need to join either, they both still let you on their site, OK you have to pay more, but you do not feel compeled to go to those sites, there are plenty of sites around that are not CC or C&CC
No trouble with dos on any site we have been to, even abroad, just need to make sure you have them on the lead when on the site. Make good guards for the MH as well
We found CC had some nice small dog walks on sites handy for the quick pee before bedtime, but CCC can't be beaten for having sites right in the middle of wonderful dog walking countryside IMO.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
