My better half convinced me to upgrade our inverter from 300 to 1000W to power essential accessories ( hairdryer!) when no mains are available. I have just removed the old one ( after market fitted) and duly noted it runs through an integral fuse on the positive lead from the leisure battery.

The new inverter has good heavy duty cables but no fuse. Is one neccessary, and if so, what size should I go for?

So much to learn!

The specification oin the inverter will tell you what fuse you will need, also make sure that the correct cable sizes are being used, with it being a larger inverter more current will be drawn, it they are only rated for the 300W they could be too small for the larger 1KW inverter

Can't find any reference to fuse requirements on the product info. It does say it has inbuilt overload and short circuit protection, so I wonder if it needs a fuse?

I am going to use the cables supplied with new inverter so assume they are adequately rated....they are quite substantial!

If for the installation it does not mention anything, then you should be ok, as you say it has internal overload and and short circuit protection

Good luck with it.

I will be taking my satellite, solar panel + regulator, inverter and such like ooff of mine shortly to fit to the new vehicle
