Not got a motorhome myself but saw a guy interviewed on tv and they specialise in hiring. They reckoned they could make you the cost of running the home back at least every year. Not sure how true because he was selling his services but the figures he gave out worked on paper.
thnks folks, i'll be looking into it. I reckon motorhomes are going to take off bigtime in the next few years. Interest in tent camping has doubled over the last 10 years and i think a percentage will aspire to use motorhomes

How are they going to figure on the new tax laws and on congestion charges??
Have a look at availability on Motorholme, they dont seem to have many booked yet even for peak times.
I think i would build my own website. The first Motorhome would be mine anyhow and the rentel would just be a bonus when im not using it. Its a way of pursuading the Wife into letting me have one........I have quite a successful villa rental in Florida that i rent out mainly just from ebay and a thirdparty agency. I think i could get the motorhome to break even in the first year.
I am a new owner of a motor home and until i bought it i was thinking about rental but not now i have taken the plunge.
I have rented in the past in america with a young family and i remember a number of things got broken, most people do not look after vehicles if they are not the owners and motorhomes are not like houses the fixtures and fittings are far flimsier due to weight/payload difficulties.I would also suggest that to get the top rate you would need an up to date model therefor your iniial investment would be high, if you settle for older vans maintenance would be high ,
please post again if you go ahead and i really hope you prove me wrong
I have just said more or less exactly the same to the wife......if you are going to let you would have to have a modern one and be careful who you are renting to.
Janso, sorry to play party pooper or devils advocate.
Might be worth you popping in to have achat with Malcoms Motorhomes in Burslem. He used to be a motorhome hirer in Stoke but now only sells new.
Check on ebay, its a cut throat market already. Loads of people doing it and loads more stating they can do it for you. If your investment is going to be a £35k plus van which from the way you are talking it looks like it, then as others have said expect trouble. Other than the high milage and damage which wil inevitably occur, the increased insurance costs the all to familiar break down of compononents. The resale value will be poor due to the abused state. Companies that hire motorhomes tend to factor them, ie lease them for very small fees and then rent them to cover the costs and make money.
You could of course just rent it to people you know, and pray that your friendships not ruined by the way they abuse it.
like i say have a word with Malcom see why he don't hire anymore.
I would have thought the insurance costs would be phenomenal too. If you look at hiring a motorhome the excesses are often huge and the small print plentiful. If things got broken I reckon you could have a messy battle on your hands as to who is liable and to actually get any money out of them etc.
